Today's Subjects: ----------------- [EDA] Beginnings bootleg/angelfood ["JewelWiki .com" Subject: [EDA] Beginnings bootleg/angelfood I noticed that no one has mentioned this bootleg on the list yet! Jewel mentioned it in her most recent blog and I finally added the information for it to the wiki: http://www.jewelwiki.com/pmwiki.php?n=Angelfood.Beginnings The bootleg showed up very briefly online for sale at a few websites via digital music distribution company TuneCore.com with the following information: - ---- In 1994, Jewel entertained customers at the Innerchange Cafi in San Diego, California. These are the recordings from the beginning of Jewel's career. A number of these tracks have been heard on bootleg / lesser quality rips from previous recordings and live shows, but this is the first professional recording done of Jewel, ever. The album contains 23 tracks total, including 21 previously unreleased tracks. - ---- Chris from Pieces of UK ( http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~cmgroves/Jewel/ ) found it and asked if anyone had any more details on it; I did a bit of searching and found it for purchase on Lala.com (it's been removed) and e-mailed asking Alan/MrBB if he had any information on the release. Here's what Alan had to say regarding the bootleg: - ---- I think I can clear this up, as there does seem to be a lot of incorrect info being circulated, which others have forwarded here as well. The primary answer is no, Beginnings is definitely not legit and is not a legal release. This is why various online locations removed it immediately. Jewel has never granted permission for anyone to be selling those or any other bootleg recordings. Although they are indeed one of the many 1994 live recordings of Jewel at The Inner Change, much of the hype about them is blatant false advertising. I'll simply addresss the actual statements I've read in print so far. They are certainly not the earliest proffessional recordings of Jewel. They are not even the earliest proffessional recordings of Jewel at The Inner Change, let alone proffesional recordings. The source is simply a cassette of a mono recording made off the little rinky-dink mixer they had at the Inner Change. By 1994, several digital soundboard-direct recordings had already been made. A couple of live multitrack recordings were also made prior to this recording, as well as many studio demos, so my point is they are simply not what they claim to be - "the earliest proffesional recordings of Jewel." Also, this particular recording was definitely not made prior to Jewel signing with Atlantic, which occurred in 1993, well before this performance. And needless to say, many of the song titles are certainly not the accurate titles, then or now. Just somebody guessing who was not very good at it - or possibly naming them incorrectly on purpose in a vain attempt to avoid publishing and copyright legalities. Anyone attempting to profit by selling you these recordings is doing so illegally. They are not trying to do you any favor. That said, Jewel does plan to release official archive recordings and when she does, you can be certain they will be officially announced on jeweljk.com, her myspace page, etc. Feel free to pass this entire message on. - ---- The tracklist for the bootleg is advertised as: CD 1: 1000 Miles Away Who Will Save Your Soul I'm Sorry Pa Time Passes Quickly Daddy Hey Mister I'm Tired and Lonely Swedish Raven If You See I'll be Seeing You Again CD 2: Pieces of You Oh My Angel China/Yodel Song Rocker Girl There's a Man on the Front Porch Never Mind Communion See Sassy Wake Up Nicotine Lover Painters Bonus Track - Poem The actual tracklist is: CD 1: 1,000 Miles Away Who Will Save Your Soul Sometimes It Be That Way Boy Needs a Bike She Cries Long Gone Daddy Hey Mister Angel Needs a Ride Swedish Song Raven The Circle Song I'll Be Seeing You Again CD 2: Pieces of You Angel (Cowboy Waltz) Chime Bells Rocker Girl My Fish Family Nevermind All the Animals See Sassy / Silver Satin Wings (first verse & chorus) Nicotine Love Painters Poem - ---- Hope this info helps!
