[James Br] Re: [EDA] Paisley Party Tour review (and vids) from Bristow, VA [chrissyp] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2008 20:01:36 -0400 From: "JewelWiki .com" Subject: [EDA] Paisley Party Tour review (and vids) from Bristow, VA Here's my mini-review of Jewel's performance on the Paisley Party Tour at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow VA. First, I wanted to say if you plan on seeing Jewel on this tour, you might not want to read the review to keep yourself surprised when you see her. There's nothing too revealing, but it might still be nice to be surprised (setlist, etc). :) The show started at 7:30 and I thought I was getting there early at 5...boy was I wrong! There were loads of people there (the parking lot was almost full!) Everyone arrived early to tailgate. I'm from the south, but I have never seen so many rednecks in one area before (county fairs and peanut fests included). They were playing all sorts of games I had never seen and several of them had confederate flags hanging off the back of their trucks. One flag was on a 20' flag poll stuck in a fishing rack on the front of this guy's truck. Scary? yes. Convenient? yes. It at least helped me find my car after the show! And speaking of the show, the opening acts were all great! Julianne Hough was a pretty good singer and she danced a lot. I guess that makes sense since she was on that dancing show. She wore this frilly brown dress and danced all over the stage. She reached down and touched/shook hands with a lot of the fans and was so thankful to everyone for their support. Chuck Wicks was also really good. His songs were good, he's a good singer, and a good looker, too. He also reached down and shook hands with the audience a lot. Which brings us to Jewel! Jewel was great... the show was more of a "greatest hits" sort of setlist that we've been seeing on this tour. She didn't try to countrify her older hits though. She opened with Hands. She also sang Stronger Woman and I Do (the only tracks off Perfectly Clear). She asked the audience to sing along to You Were Meant for Me near the end, and they did. Something that was really cool that I hadn't seen done at a Jewel concert before was play footage of each of the music videos on the screens to the side of the stage. They mixed the footage in with a live feed of her singing on stage. It was really well done...they even used clips from the "Sean Penn" You Were Meant for Me video! Most of the music video clips they showed were of the scenes from the clips (like the Standing Still landscape that opens the video) or clips that didn't have her singing (if that makes sense). She said she was hanging out with some guys from the department of the defense before the show and said how thankful she was to have them out there fighting for our country, etc. She said she usually does a different song at this point during the set, but this time she was going to do Life Uncommon as a dedication to them and anyone else that is over seas or that we may have lost. http://www.vimeo.com/1345256 - Life Uncommon on Vimeo HD The song that impressed me the most from her set was actually Who Will Save Your Soul. It's weird because lately I've been bored of her singing WWSYS at the end of a concert, but this time she blew me away. She did the back and forth dueling with her guitarist, but this time she really belted out more than I'm used to hearing. http://www.vimeo.com/1341306 - See the dueling vocal/guitar on Vimeo HD She ended with Chime Bells and was pretty good on that too...I've been bored with Chime Bells a capella recently and missing her and the guitar, but it was a great a capella performance of it anyway. I think that Chime Bells may have been the highlight of the show for the Brad Paisley fan next to me because he talked about it a couple times after that. Brad Paisley found himself a new fan tonight. His show blew me away! He was a great performer, even though I only knew 2 of his songs. He had a huge LED set that did all sorts of video through most of his songs. I think my favorite song from his set was Mr. Policeman. It's a fast tempo song about trying to race away from the cops (though he gets caught by the end). He had pre-recorded duets on 2 of his songs, which were pretty cool. He did Whiskey Lullaby with Allison Kraus and had footage of her made to look like she was on stage with him using the LED set. It was really well done. (His part was still live). The other duet was with BB King though I don't know the song name. One more duet he did that you are probably most interested in is with Jewel on That's the Way Love Goes. They sounded great together! I think Jewel was a little shy because she scurried off stage as soon as she finished singing. http://www.vimeo.com/1341370 - That's the Way Love Goes on Vimeo HD I got a lot of video clips though these are probably the better ones. I video'd bits of all of Jewel's songs...any song in particular anyone wants to hear? I've also got new angelfood if anyone is interested. :) Robby - -- http://www.jewelwiki.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2008 19:09:30 -0700 (PDT) From: James Brogdon Subject: [EDA] Anyone Have 2004-06-19 Jacksonville Oregon -Instant Live?
