The singer and songwriter will also boost the Performing Arts program at Farragut High School. Jewel and her guitar will entertain an audience of just 150 people at the high school on Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m. Jewel agreed to a small, intimate acoustic performance to raise money for a charity, according to WIVK General Manager and Knox County Commissioner Mike Hammond. Farragut Principal Mike Reynolds is in charge of selling the tickets for the private performance, according to Hammond. Reynolds could not be reached immediately for information on how he plans to sell the tickets. Hammond said he asked Jewel if she'd be interested in performing in Knoxville, after she visits WIVK's studio to promote her new country album recorded with John Rich of Big and Rich. Hammond said he'd been at a meeting and heard Farragut wanted to raise money to renovate its performing arts center, which was built in the early 1970s. WIVK will auction off 10 pairs of tickets on air, starting April 28. Jewel has recorded six albums, which have sold more than 17 million copies. She has also received three Grammy nominations. - -- Scott Anthony Evans scott@scottanthony.org http://www.scottanthony.org ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V12 #312 ****************************
