Then, yesterday I received a book in the mail called "The Book of Lilith" by Barbara Black Koltuv and as I began to read it it occurred to me that what the video in particular portrays is the transformation of woman from Eve to Lilith. In Genesis there are two creation stories: in the first an unnamed woman is created equal to the man, Adam - in later Jewish folklore she was called Lilith and the story is told of how she left when Adam would not accept her as an equal; in the second version, Eve is created from Adam's rib to be his helper - there's a nice description of the Eve role near the beginning of Stronger Woman. And Lilith is the Stronger Woman who emerges as the song progresses. Patriarchal folklore, of course, made Lilith the queen of the demons. I have a beloved old dog who is timid and gentle but has a wicked sense of humour: her name is Lilith. Take care, Barry Howarth ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V12 #284 ****************************
