Paisley made the announcement Wednesday night (March 5) during his performance at the Music City Jam, an event connected to the annual Country Radio Seminar taking place in Nashville this week. The Paisley Party, as the tour's called, begins June 11 in Albuquerque. Some 42 cities are already on the schedule through mid October. All three acts joined Paisley onstage at the CRS show. Jewel and Wicks both performed, but Hough had to leave to return to Los Angeles to rehearse for Dancing With the Stars. A professional dancer, Hough is working on her first album as a country singer. She's off to a promising start, at least from the standpoint of being signed to a major label -- Mercury Nashville, the home of Sugarland, among others. Hough has released her first single, "That Song in My Head," and will be delivering her debut album in May. At Wednesday's show, three of the top executives at Paisley's record label - -- Arista Nashville -- surprised him with a plaque commemorating his career sales of 10 million albums. Before offering a more heartfelt display of his appreciation, Paisley looked at the label execs and joked, "Great. I've always wanted to meet you." ________________________________________________ Wireless Internet Ltda -- www.wnetrj.com.br ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2008 14:43:06 -0500 From: dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Tour! -- Nooooooo THANK you Sorry Jewel - if I wanted to witness the NASCAR crowd, I'd go to a race.? Even after her stint on Nashville Star (that's the right name, right?) Jewel is a new-kid-on-the-block in country music and does not yet have a tride-and-true live following in that genre. If she headlined her own tour that featured the new album, I am not too sure it would do/go over well since many people would buy tix expecting old-school Jewel and seeing new-school Jewel might turn many of them off. Plus, even if advertising for the tour makes it clear this is "country" Jewel, I'm not soo sure it would sell well with the country music fans, at least not yet in this, her infancy stages of this genre. Opening for known country act with other country artists on the bill will (hopefully) start to get her a live following. That said, there's always the (probable) fact that many ticket buyers won't even see her on this tour with Paisley as many will arrive to their seats just before Paisley takes the stage or just not pay attention to her. This is what I witnessed at my lone Rob Thomas/Jewel concert in 2006. The venue was 2/3 empty during Jewel's set and full during Rob's set and many that WERE there during her set were not paying attention. Anyway, we'll see soon enough. I just know as a Jewel fan, and having also been exposed to a Brad Paisley show, I'm waiting for something better.? Really - I agree most with the latter part of your post.? I don't believe this is going to dramatically increase any sales.? I expect most country fans are going to say, "Who? That folkie chick we couldn't get away from a while back?? Didn't she sing that one song..."? Then they can take a more liesurely time at dinner because they think they already know what they're going to see. It's tough to know what factors really go into making an album a success.? But, if opening for Brad Paisley boosts her chart-position by even a couple at any point during the summer, I'd be very surprised.? I believe with so many swings in her style offerings during the last few years she should be just as concerned with holding onto her core audience, which I also don't believe opening for Brad Paisley will help with. Of course, that's just my opinion - I could be wrong. - -----Original Message----- From: Mike Connell To: dave0828@aol.com Cc: jewel@smoe.org Sent: Thu, 6 Mar 2008 3:20 pm Subject: Re: [EDA] Tour! -- Nooooooo THANK you >> Come on Jewel - stand on your own two feet!!? Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2008 12:34:06 -0800 (PST) From: Karen Boysen Subject: Re: [EDA] Tour! -- Nooooooo THANK you I think as Mike said, it's pretty much common practice to tour with someone such as Jewel is doing. You can't really compare her career 15 years ago or so when she was opening for Dylan and Neil Young etc. That was a different time for her, you have to almost look at this as a brand new career. She's trying to get into a whole new genre. This is the best way for her to build a fan base and whether you like Brad Paisley or not, he's quite popular in the country realms so IMO, a good choice has been made. But of course, only time will tell. As for comparing the upcoming shows to those she did with Rob Thomas...well I am not sure that's a fair comparison either. Country music fans and fans of...whatever you call Rob's music exactly (I don't dislike him or his music I just don't know which genre it fits in) aren't really comparable. I think as a whole country music fans are respectable. I've attended country music concerts and I've been there for the whole thing, opening act and all, as were the majority of the people. It's just a different scene compared to rock and pop concerts. So, while only time will tell, I think this is a good move for Jewel. - ----- Original Message ---- From: Mike Connell To: dave0828@aol.com Cc: jewel@smoe.org Sent: Thursday, March 6, 2008 2:20:44 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] Tour! -- Nooooooo THANK you >> Come on Jewel - stand on your own two feet!!?
