Today's Subjects: ----------------- [EDA] XM taping, and politics [Cornered Weasel ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2008 05:05:39 -0800 (PST) From: Cornered Weasel Subject: [EDA] XM taping, and politics Re: the Hillary comment, I guess I need to explain further so that you don't get the idea that she dislikes Hillary personally or has chosen a political side. Someone asked her about her political stance, and she proclaimed a healthy disillusionment with everyone running. She said she didn't know much about any of them, didn't seem too excited about any candidate, and understood that politics makes you say things you don't believe. She said she's always tried to speak the truth in her music, so I think that politics rubs her the wrong way. I didn't hear anything on friday that indicated the 'old Jewel' was gone - I think she's still that person, but more world-aware. She has not suddenly become homo-phobic by who she's hanging out with - in fact, she seemed very relaxed and comfortable with herself and her music. She even mentioned the time she was at a congressional hearing and one senator was offended by the lyrics of "Pieces of You", misinterpreting the lyrics. As for seeing colors in music, on friday she mentioned seeing 'shapes' in music. In summary, I think she really has her head on straight these days. She seemed happy, realistic, and optimistic about her future. She's living with a cowboy in Texas, so I'm sure a little conservatism will creep into her world at times! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jan 2008 19:04:59 -0500 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: Re: [EDA] More on XM taping... Ew, serious points deducted if she wasn't speaking completely in jest. First, she pals with that jingoistic loser Toby Keith and the homophobic John Rich (does he hate gays because they're piiiieces of hi-im?), and now the Hill-bashing. She'll fit right into the country market. If you want to hear something really refreshing, go to her website and listen to the NPR interview from '95. Her talk about seeing colors in music and working hard at her craft make me miss vintage Jewel. (sigh) ...off to listen to some Jewelstock. xxSA - --------------------------------- Never miss a thing.
