I'll just have to keep track of my bandwidth. I don't host a lot of media, and I have a REALLY high bandwidth cap. By the way, my Youtube account was deleted because of all the copyrighted material. Oops! I'm about to upload them all to my server, so I'll send the links out when I'm finished. I still have more shows to do, so I'll probably make some sort of Jewel media hub in the near future. Most of my video is copywritten material, but perhaps I'll also make another Youtube account and just put up live stuff, like the Chicago show. Happy Thanksgiving! Generally speaking whether or not a song appears on an album isn't an issue - it's the artist/management policy regarding tape trading. There are some bands and some venues that explicity prohibit taping/trading, to the point that most of the online communities ban trading/posting material from those artists/venues. Obviously we have a pretty rich history of trading on this list, but IIRC a few years back Atlantic was putting the kabash on MP3 file sharing here. In any case, any recording, whether it is on a record or not, once it is performed, the artist owns the copyright. I'm sure Larry or somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure we've all heard Jewel say "you little bootleggers" a few times at shows when people cheer for non-album songs. The problem (IMO) with putting material up on a site like etree would be that you/i/we have no control over it. All it would take is for the label to go to etree and demand it be taken down, and poof it's gone... whether that would be when there were 10 shows up or 1,000, who knows, but it could happen at any time. I'll stick to my CD-Rs, as ancient as that seems ;) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2007 13:53:12 -0500 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: [EDA] Youtube: Chicago 1997 re-uploaded http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=lebruitblanc OK, so I'll watch out this time, but I think Youtube is a good option for regular live stuff. Instant viewing. Enjoy if you missed it last time. It's an amazing show. - -- Scott Anthony Evans scott@scottanthony.org http://www.scottanthony.org ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2007 11:44:53 -0800 From: "E N" Subject: Re: [EDA] Re: Concert recording question Oh, I can answer that! Her specific live performances are indeed copyrighted. That's why most artists archive their live performances and record each live performance (to fulfill the requirements of copyright). Additionally, even if they didn't simultaneously record those live performances, there's a federal (and usually) state anti bootlegging statutes :) - -Elizabeth P.S. I do like the artists who do allow material on archive.org ... it's a great site! Jewel (and/or her record company/management) always had an official policy of no taping but a sort of understanding that Jewel didn't really mind. I don't know where that stands these days. Also, keep in mind that I'm senile and might be making all of the above up! :-) Amy In a message dated 11/22/07 12:56:32 PM, jbrogdon@sbcglobal.net writes: > > Generally speaking whether or not a song appears on an album isn't an issue > - it's the artist/management policy regarding tape trading.
