Yeah, it's him. Amy (w1ggy2) and I were chatting about the same question a couple of weeks ago and a quick Google verified it. He & Anya Marina co-wrote the song (You Remind Me, which is on Steve's album Chinese Vacation), so they're both making some bank off this one! Story is, the guy who runs the ad agency who created the campaign dated the roommate of a girl Steve dated when they were in college at USD. He remembered Steve's music & thought it'd be right for the ad. That's cuz it is our Steve Poltz! That's his song along with Anya Marina, from his album Chinese Vacation. I just saw him play a few weeks ago in Indianapolis, he was awesome as usual. Wish Jewel still did shows like that... She was introduced by her father, which was pretty cool as I'd never seen them together. She opened with Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Near You Always, took her usual requests, played A Thousand Miles Away, Passing Time, Stephenville, and Little Sister. Then she played a few new tracks from the new album, the one called I Do, seemed to struggle with it a bit, like she didn't know it that well. Then she played another new song called, I think, Stronger Woman. It was a great little tune and the audience loved it, kind of a self love uplifting ditty. She followed that up with Thump Thump. Then her dad came up and played three or four songs (Jewel sang back-up on a couple). She mentioned that she had a lot of family members in the audience that night from Alaska and who could blame them for relocating to Phoenix (it was 85 degrees yesterday!)? Let's see...she got back up and did the whole medication/dentist story, did Morning Song, Standing Still, WWSYS, YWMFM (with a condensed version of the hitchhiking through Mexico story). I THINK that's it but I could be missing something. For the encore she did Foolish Games and Chime Bells. It seemed that overall she played a TON of POY and not a lot of newer stuff(don't get me wrong I love the older stuff, but I've seen it several times before). I was really hoping for some Nicotine Love but she only had two guitars and they were both in standard tuning. I can't complain though, as she generally skips over Phoenix altogether and the last time she WAS here, she had those broken ribs. The newer stuff still sounds like the same Jewel so those of you confused by the country thing have no need to worry. Sorry this is so short but I'm late! :) Take Care All, Jen _www.havenjames.com_ (http://www.havenjames.com) _www.myspace.com/havenjames_ (http://www.myspace.com/havenjames) ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 12:53:12 EST From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: poltz commercial? Speaking of Poltz, he's also the band leader on an online talk show. Its a tech oriented show that I think is sponsored by AT&T. Of course, I can't find the link at the moment and I've only watched a little bit but it looked pretty cool. Steve (with his band the Prophets made up of John Castro and his brother I believe) makes up songs for each of the guests and general hilarity ensues. I'll try and find the link or maybe someone on the list has it. :-) Amy www.edaf.org ********************************************* "All my life I wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific." ~ Jane Wagner ~ ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 13:33:55 -0600 From: Rob Hanning Subject: RE: [EDA] NJC: poltz commercial? http://techchannel.att.com/ It's called the Hugh Thompson Show. Click on that & watch as much as you can stand. Steve is great, but the host himself is so annoying that I haven't been able to watch more than the first couple of episodes, even with skipping through them. - --------------------------------------------- http://www.myspace.com/justfrag > From: W1GGY2@aol.com > Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 12:53:12 -0500 > Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: poltz commercial? > To: jewel@smoe.org > > Speaking of Poltz, he's also the band leader on an online talk show.
