Detail: Rosemont Theatre is a 4,400 seat theatre located on River Road (just east of Chicago O'Hare). We had front row right side seats. Their website brags of 1200 parking spaces, which is great given the location, except that they charge $15 bucks to park :) (and obviously no where else is going to be any cheaper). They had a terrific entrance lobby. There was no inspection for camera/video/audio devices and audience members took repeated flash photography throughout, although I wouldn't say it was prolific. The ~60 piece Chicago Pops Orchestra was on hand for the first of four events of the season @ The Rosemont Theatre. They were celebrating John Williams' 75th birthday this year. They opened with Olympic Fanfare (from the 84 Summer Olympics in LA, still used today). Next was the ET theme song. After that this young Italian baritone came out and performed two songs with the Orchestra, one in Italian and the other in English. He sounded a bit like Elvis during the English song, he did speak for a minute to the audience in decent English, his singing was pretty remarkable. Amazing voice, but his antics were strange. I guess he was just very excited as the conductor had mentioned this was his first time performing in the US. He left stage, the orchestra performed the Star Wars theme and took an intermission. Note that the show from Joliet, IL in November 2006 also featured the Chicago Pops Orchestra, but it was a minor assembly (10-12 piece?). This was the full orchestra, and it was unannounced as far as I know. I guess anyone local to the Chicago area may have known as it seemed to be the regular venue for the orchestra. We both noticed a significant echo in Rosemont, so much so that I don't think sitting back and center would have eliminated it. That was pretty disappointing. Also note that this is a modern venue, so there's not much to look at inside. Jewel came out to stage escorted by the conductor, Arnie Roth. She was wearing a (mostlY) black dress with white designs. Knee length with a high waist, and I would say it was a "messy pleat" design. My S.O. described it later as a "black giraffe".. she didn't care for it. Anyway, she had on some black strappy shoes with a solid heel that looked like cork, and about 3". The front row center section was empty, which we heard later on from an audience member was somewhat common with her shows when she's wearing a dress and there's a high stage thrust like at the Rosemont. I've not seen that before. She opened with SOTR and proceeded to play the usual setlist. She was accompanied most of the night by the Orchestra and also the same electric guitarist as the Rialto/Joliet show last November. She must really think he's cute - she mentioned that he was recently single and made a drawn out comment about "digging deep" tonight for therapy. Notable songs included "I'm Sensitive" which she said was Arnie's doing because she didn't know how to play it. She also sang Anything Goes, plus a Jewel-Only Cold Song by audience request and Carnivore, which she introduced by saying, "This isn't on any album so don't be surprised if you don't know it, except two of you." The only new song was "Thump, Thump" S.O. noted the orchestra added in some extra ripples as it was their second or third time around with Jewel's music. The other time I saw her with a full orchestra was in Cleveland (05 I think), and we were center and about 30 rows back. Cain Park is an outdoor amphitheatre and the acoustics were obviously much better for this show. I got email addresses from one guy who sat in the front row center anyway the entire show and was not removed, he was taking a lot of pictures. I also got an email from a guy who took a video during the encore, but it was a small digital (photo) camera and it's going to be jumpy as hell. At least two people got up on the stage after the majority of the audience had left to take guitar picks. One of the road crew said, "If you guys just ask next time I'll give them to you" He was 5'6 to 5'8, somewhat thin, dark hair.. I think it was curly and he had a mustache and glasses, although those last three details could be made up. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 19:54:37 -0400 From: "JewelWiki .com" Subject: [EDA] Req: Pics from Rosemont 10/20 Hi EDA's, I was hoping to get some pictures from the Rosemont Theatre show on October 20th of this year.
