This is what MrBB posted on the jeweljk forum last November: Hi All, Last night was quite the show. If you've been following setlists of late, Jewel has been playing well over two hours at some of the shows, but last night was the longest performance since I think Jewelstock, over 10 years ago! I'm a little pressed for time at the moment, so I'll mostly let the setlist speak for itself, but a few things stand out. One, she resurrected "I'm Sensitive" after not playing it for many years,-- with orchestral backing! Also "Per la Gloria d 'adorarvi" was finally performed with orchestral backing, the way it was meant to be heard. The guitarist for her band, Greg Suran and the Chicagoland Pops joined Jewel for "Alice" and "Satellite," in addition to material she had performed orchestrally before. And she tossed in a Cole Porter number, too. This was filmed for a future PBS broadcast and an episode of Soundstage. I'm sure you'll hear more about that before too long. Otherwise, here's the accurate setlist for ya. Alan November 28, 2006 Rialto Square Theatre, Joliet, IL JEWEL with Chicagoland Pops Orchestra conducted by Arnie Roth SOLO: Near You Always, Passing Time, 1000 Miles Away, Little Sister, The New Wild West, Life Uncommon (false start), Stephenville TX, Sometimes It Be that Way, Get Ready Boy, Morning Song, Rosy & Mick, Grey Matter, Break Me, Violet Eyes, Life Uncommon, Cold Song, Race Car Driver, Foolish Games, Mexico Story->You Were Meant For Me, Who Will Save Your Soul JEWEL with CHICAGOLAND POPS: Goodbye Alice In Wonderland, I'm Sensitive, Hands, Satellite, Intuition, Anything Goes ENCORE with CHICAGOLAND POPS : Per La Gloria d'Adorarvi, Somewhere Over The Rainbow ENCORE SOLO: Chime Bells ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2007 13:21:02 -0500 From: "jamie mathews" Subject: Re: NJC: Re: [EDA] Eleven years ago yesterday and tonight - Jewelstock Larry, you're so silly. =) On 7/20/07, Larry Greenfield wrote: > > She's got it right. > Wishes I was there. For those who love Jewel's yodel, well, not on this country album... http://www.sltrib.com/themix/ci_6417774 Jewel on homelessness, yodeling and symphony singing By Alicia Greenleigh The Salt Lake Tribune Article Last Updated: 07/19/2007 08:39:46 PM MDT We're known for the Sundance Film Festival, green Jell-O - the offical state snack - and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Jewel Kilcher was born in Payson, but her parents moved to Homer, Alaska, when she was 2. Now she's back to open this year's Deer Valley Music Festival on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with the Utah Symphony. The Salt Lake Tribune talked with Jewel via e-mail about her years as a homeless youth, her new album and her speech to Congress. Outtakes: SLT: The question on everyone's mind is, probably, are you Mormon? Jewel: I was raised Mormon until the age of 8 when my parents got divorced. Some people don't know you received a scholarship to the renowned Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, with graduates including Norah Jones and Josh Groban. Did you actively apply to attend the academy to pursue a career in music, or was it more a desire to belong to something? I think my main motivation [to go to the academy] was to get out of Alaska. It was there that I started writing songs. I was one of the only ones who didn't go to a fine arts school after graduating. I didn't think it would help my songwriting, but apparently being homeless did. You recently spoke to Congress about youth homelessness, referencing your own experiences. Is this an issue you've been fighting to educate people about since you made it off the streets? It has always been an issue I try to make people aware of. And I want people to know that it's not just a growing problem, but that there are also many misconceptions that go along with teenage homelessness. In a majority of cases, these kids had nowhere else to go and the street seemed like a better environment than the one they were in. It would be great for communities to have programs that gave these kids better options and hope rather than to live in a box on a street corner. What is on the horizon for you and your music? Any yodeling? I am working in Nashville right now trying to finish [a country album]. I was raised on a ranch and my dad was a cowboy, so I have been dying to do a country album for some time. I have been writing country songs since I was 16, so it's nice to finally get some of the material on an album. I don't think yodeling will make this one, but there may be some yodeling this weekend! Is this your first time performing with the Utah Symphony? What about this project appealed to you? This is the first time I will be performing with the Utah Symphony. Singing with an orchestra is always a great experience for me. I get to hear my songs arranged differently from what I originally intended them to sound like. . . . I'm really looking forward to it. ________________________________________________ Wireless Internet Ltda -- www.wnetrj.com.br ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V12 #140 ****************************
