I like Big and Rich for the fact that they are not the normal mainstream country, but Rich producing Jewel.... Well, at least it will be interesting. I was really hoping that she was going to go with something more like a Texas sound than Nashville, but oh well- there is more money in nashville country than Texas Music. I have had the opportunity to meet many country musicians and none have been more polite and talented than Big Kenny & John Rich. I know that he will listen to her and use her ideas to produce a wonderful album. Heck, Jewel can not be placed in one genre. She has music for everyone and now even us country music fans. Her website is pretty ludicrous. I found this online. Apparently, it's tomorrow. - -- WHO: Steve Earle, Pete Yorn, Jewel, Marah, M. Ward, Badly Drawn Boy and others. WHAT: "Celebrating the Music of Bruce Springsteen: Music for Youth Benefit Concert." WHEN: 8 p.m. Thursday. WHERE: Carnegie Hall, 57th Street and Seventh Avenue, Manhattan; 212-247-7800 or carnegiehall.org. HOW MUCH: $40, $45 and $75. "Streets of Philadelphia" was singer-songwriter Dave Bielanko's first choice when he and his band, Marah, were asked to contribute a song to the Bruce Springsteen tribute concert Thursday at Carnegie Hall. That's a reasonable request, given that Bielanko and his brother, Serge, grew up in suburban Philly and were weaned on Springsteen's seminal sound. "We've always loved Bruce's music," Bielanko said while calling from his Brooklyn apartment. "He was a huge influence on us, and we're honored to perform at the show." However, Marah won't be performing its song of choice. "The Bacon Brothers are going to do 'Streets of Philadelphia,' " Bielanko said. "We'll let them butcher that song. We're going to do 'The Rising.' I'm sure a lot of the performers are going to do older stuff. Someone should do the more recent Bruce material." Singer-songwriter Pete Yorn, who came of age in Montville during the '80s, couldn't escape Springsteen during the "Born in the U.S.A." era. "At that time I wasn't a big Springsteen fan," Yorn said from Los Angeles. "I was into the Smiths and The Cure. I didn't pay too much attention to the mainstream then, and I wanted something more exotic than music out of Jersey. ... But that changed when I grew up. The guy is unbelievable. He's so inspiring." Now Yorn sings such Springsteen tracks as "Racing in the Streets," "New York City Serenade" and "Dancing in the Dark" in concert. "I love doing his songs," Yorn said. "They're incredible and timeless." Steve Earle, Jewel, Josh Ritter, Bruce Hornsby, M. Ward, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Joseph Arthur, Badly Drawn Boy, the North Mississippi Allstars and the Low Stars are also on the lineup for the event, which benefits music education for underprivileged young people in New York. "Part of what's great about the show for me is to catch these performers," Bielanko said. "I hear Badly Drawn Boy does an excellent version of 'Thunder Road.' Plus I'll get a chance to ask Jewel out. I'm excited. I'll be surprised if she says yes, but this could be a night of surprises." The biggest surprise will be if the Boss shows up. If anyone would know about that, it should be Bielanko; Springsteen played on Marah's third album, "Float Away With the Friday Night Gods," and has served as a mentor to the band. "I haven't called him about this, so I don't know what he thinks," Bielanko said. "But I don't think he'll show since he is still very much in the game. I don't think he's ready to sit at the head of the table, like Frank Sinatra, and watch everyone pay tribute to him." Yorn added, "If he shows up, that would be great, but if not, I'm ready to play hard regardless." But not too hard, according to Bielanko. "We received some letters from Carnegie Hall about how we can approach this show in terms of how loud we can get," Bielanko said. "It's not surprising, since this is a venue built for opera. I imagine most of the performers will get dirge-like and acoustic. I don't think we'll have the opportunity to rage on up there, but it'll be a good time. I'm looking forward to it as a musician and a fan." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2007 13:27:26 -0400 From: "Scott Anthony Evans" Subject: [EDA] Jewel at Kenny Chesney's b-day Just a blurb. I guess she's mingling with the country crowd. I'm excited about this CD. - -- Kenny Chesney is getting ready for his ''2007 Flip Flop Summer Tour,'' which begins April 12th in Omaha, Nebraska. But before that, he had time to celebrate his 39th birthday at a Nashville bar. Some of Chesney's friends showed up for the celebration including Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Gretchen Wilson, and Jewel, to name a few. Chesney's single ''Beer in Mexico'' is currently number one on Billboard's Country Singles Chart. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2007 13:31:48 -0400 From: "Scott Anthony Evans" Subject: [EDA] POY on Definitive 200 List A pretty sweet set of associations created this list. Tickets from SISTIC 325 words 16 March 2007 TODAY (Singapore) AM N PM 60 English (c) 2007. MediaCorp Press Ltd. after shunning a more stable career in law for an uncertain future in music, Chinese-Australian singer/song- writer Deb Fung (picture) did another unthinkable thing - she got married. But in a recent interview to promote her concert at the Esplanade next month, the 27-year-old told Today she's not worried about losing the appeal that comes with being single. "My dream is not to be a pop star on the cover of every magazine," she said. "Besides, success is relative to the kind of music you put out." And the quirks that came with a married life turned out to be helpful in Fung's songwriting. Lately - a track on her third and latest album Whoever You Are - was inspired by the demands she made of her husband to help with the chores. "Part of the lyrics go on about how you have to take out the trash before you crash out in front of the TV," said Fung. "And my husband feels guilty every time someone mentions that song." But lest anyone think her music is for "desperate housewives", Fung was named Australia's Best New Gospel Artist in 2003, and cited Jewel, Sarah McLachlan and Corrinne May as influences. "I resonate with how Jewel communicates through her songs and, for me, if you believe in something you want to express it," she said. Among the issues Fung feels strongly about is the spread of Aids. She has helped promote awareness of the disease in China, though the experience hasn't succeeded in boosting her language skills. "It's a shameful thing that I can't speak Mandarin fluently," she said. "If I could, I'd spend a year of my life in China to just pick up the language." - Winson Teo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2007 10:56:35 -0700 From: "E N" Subject: Re: [EDA] POY on Definitive 200 List Scott ... do you have some sort of Jewel RSS feed set up? ;-) On 4/4/07, Scott Anthony Evans wrote: > > A pretty sweet set of associations created this list.
