If I've been out of touch, please forgive me, here's my attempt to check back in with you. Briefly, here's what's new with me: I'm back in school, working towards my Masters in Physical Therapy (I plan on going to Cal State Northridge in the fall of 2008). I'm still very happy teaching Pilates here in Santa Barbara and I've signed up with the local Team in Training Program to run a marathon on June 23, 2007 in Anchorage, Alaska!!! TNT is a wonderful organization - they not only fundraise a lot of money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation (more than 600 million dollars so far! ), but 75% of the money raised goes toward research and patient Aid. It has been an inspiration for me to find and give my time to this cause. I hope you will also find the act of millions of people coming together for the benefit of so many inspirational and empowering. My hope is reach my fundraising goal of $4800 by April, 2007. If you would like to support me in this very ambitious goal, please follow the directions in the link below: http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/SeeAlisaRun Alternatively, you may also send checks by mail, please email me at pilatesplayground@gmail.com if you would like to help out this way. For more information about TNT, please check out this link: www.sbtnt.com For more information about Leukemia and Lymphoma please go here: http://www.sbtnt.com/learn-more.shtml Feel free to circulate this email through your circle of family and friends, and I wish you a Healthy and Delight-filled year! Thank you so much for your time and support. Keep in Touch! Alisa Solovyeva Petersen PS. Also, if you would like me to run in honor of a loved one who has been affected by one of these diseases, or if you would like to share your personal stories, please write to me: pilatesplayground@gmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Get in the mood for Valentine's Day. As a rural Texas "rock star" (that is, the most successful rodeo bull rider of all time), I'm sure Ty gets a pass with the locals for pretty much any transgression. The same goes for the local high school football coaches and players, as long as they're winning. It sounds to me like the bill wasn't paid on time (or maybe not at all). Folks with lots of money often don't want to part with it, or can't be bothered tracking mundane debts. I have no idea, and don't much care as I'm trying to keep my own bills paid. I'm sure a reasonable business would continue to extend credit to anyone who has deep pockets and keeps their end of the bargain. Then again, Rowdy could have gotten bum information on the whole situation. (That bum Rowdy! ;-) Insofar as fame going to Jewel's head, I think we've seen enough of her "glam" phases over the past several years to make our own educated guesses if that's happened or not. Back in 1996 did anyone on this list expect Jewel to have multiple club remixes or national ad licensing like "Intuition"? Or programs like the backstage velvet rope meet-and-greets and the absolutely horrendous "preferred fan" programs her management has offered? Ask the once-aspiring artist community of Soul City where they think Jewel's priorities really are... *ahem* Then again, let's blame that bum Rowdy! (I know where there are pictures of him and a plywood cow on a cheap Houston hotel room floor, BTW...) - -- Trust me. This isn't the end of the fan club altogether and I've been told the message board will run for the forseeable future. You mentioned allowing presale ticket ordering without having to pay membership. The problem there is, it will let in the touts who will come in and buy out all the good seats and sell at a profit. That goes against the whole idea of a presale, meaning these better more desireable seats are held for the real and genuine fans. I don't mind paying for a fanclub membership. I do have a couple of issues of course, one being, I'm an international member. I don't get the benefit of taking part in any competitions so I can't win anything, she hasn't toured in Europe for many years so I don't benefit from pre-sale tickets and yet, I pay $5 MORE than US members. It doesn't make sense. Shouldn't international members get it cheaper because we get less out of the fan club? Anywho...I'll let you all know if there are any changes. Luckily, they've decided to keep the message board open for now. Though I doubt they'll be doing any news updates themselves. As usual, I will keep it updated as much as I can with news I get hold of. I'm also checking to see if the message boards will be free to access. As members will be getting their memberships refunded, or they'll expire, I wondered how it would be that the message boards would be accessible to members after March 1st. I'll get back to you all when I have more. Take care Kiera - ------------------------ Want to know more Jewel? When, "Do you know who I am" doesn't even help at the feed store, it's probably a good idea to get focus back on her relationship with her fans. As Dennis said, "You start believing your own press and forgetting those who helped reach success, and it can bite you in the tush!" Take some of the millions of dollars we've given her in album and ticket sales, and reinvest it in an official fan website that encourages long-time fans AND potential new fans to follow her career. A professional website with a good variety of pages of things that fans are typically interested in, can be a very powerful marketing tool. First thing, it should be easily accessible to anyone with even a passing interest in Jewel. That means it shouldn't cost anything. Information about her upcoming appearances needs to be reliable and posted as soon as she's scheduled. Of course pictures, videos, and maybe even some free downloads keep people coming back to the site. And discussion boards to...with Kiera in charge. ;) Mike, you do such a great job with the EDA list, we're keeping you for life. Offering presale tickets without having to pay to join an "official" fansite might help sell out some of the venues which, too often, aren't sold out. Having lots of TV gigs is cool, and may make her more recognizable, but for people to buy the music and go to the shows, she's got to have more than just face and name recognition. Otherwise, more people than just the guy at the feed store will think of her as just another "One of them Dixie Chicks." I wonder if anyone setting up her upcoming fansite reads the posts on our little list? While it's all still in the planning stages, now might be a good time for people to throw their two cents in. (That bum Rowdy! ;-) No, I doubt it has anything to do with him not paying his bills, alot of the larger stores have completely done away way the charge account system, esp most/all of the chain stores, like Tractor Suppy, Gebo's, and the like. Even some of the smaller ones have as well. There are two small feed stores I trade with here in town, one has an account system, the other is cash, and that was true for even when I was working for one of the biggest ranchers in Jones County. Then again, let's blame that bum Rowdy! (I know where there are pictures of him and a plywood cow on a cheap Houston hotel room floor, BTW...) Yeah, I still have dim memories of that night, there was also a stuffed animal invovled as well. Good stuff! :-) So, when can Woody come down for a date anyway? Saddled with Cash-n-carry status Something about this story seems fishy. If this was a local feed store in Stevensville Texas one would think that everyone in town would know who their resident hero Ty Murray was dating, especially after 7 years. Second, could this have been a case of mistaken identity? Hatred for the Dixie Chicks still runs deep here in the south, live in Orlando Florida and they only dixie Chicks song I've heard on the radio in years is their remake of "Landslide" none of the 3 local country stations here will play their new stuff, heck landslide gets airplay like once a year. If the clerk confused Jewel for a Dixie Chicks, that could have been why the clerk refused them service and given Jewel cause to ask "dont you know who I am?" Although the little bit of information we have from the story gives no real context to why Jewel asked don't you know who I am. I wish I knew more before passing judgement. Although the little bit of information we have from the story gives no real context to why Jewel asked don't you know who I am. I wish I knew more before passing judgement. Whoa, hold up. Some of you are making way too big of a deal of this. The clerk did not "refuse them service," just refused to to put it on an instore account. This was just to be a amusing little anedote about Jewel's life in Texas, not some philosophical issue that anyone has to "pass judgement" on. The way the story was told to me, it sounded like Jewel was joking when she asked "Do you know who I am?" And the Clerk may well have known who she was, but thought that his answer was funny as well, which I thought it was. Or Hell, maybe Jewel was serious, and maybe the clerk knew who she was, but thought that she needed to be put in her place. Though, it would not suprise me that the clerk did not know who she was at all. There are lots of older people down here that would not know Jewel from any other blond singer, yes even around stephenville. But tell everyone what, since this worries so many of you, when I go back to work Friday night I'll ask my friend to to get me in touch with her brother, and I'll hear the story first hand. Rowdy. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V12 #28 ***************************
