She is really getting comfortable with the role as host. She's very warm with the contestants and sticks up for them when the judges say something mean... She was great with Anastasia (I guess she's the mean judge like Simon) this week. The chick had said that a girl was pitchy and Jewel was like there were NO pitch problems... basically calling the chick crazy. It was funny. My dad has been a Nashville Star fan since the beginning and he really likes her a lot. He's glad that she speaks with a quiet voice instead of shouting like past hosts. Fjjordao wrote: Hey guys! Well, Jewel hosting Nashville Star is a hit! The fans of the show are loving her more each week. It is surely getting her some new fans, as you can read here: http://forums.usanetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=384010 It also seems Jewel kinda had an argument with one of the judges and it seems she "nailed" the judge, quoting one fan of the show. I myself haven't seen it, but it does look interesting :) Also, I've heard a few rumors going around saying that Jewel is pregnant. I believe it's just a weird rumor that comes out of nothing, but if anyone knows anything, please share :) See ya! ________________________________________________ Wireless Internet Ltda -- www.wnetrj.com.br - --------------------------------- Bored stiff? Chrissy JANUARY 18, 2007 WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE CARRIED YOU THROUGH THE TOUGHEST TIME IN YOUR CAREER? WHO GAVE IT TO YOU? HAVE YOU PASSED IT ON TO THE ELIMINATED CONTESTANTS? Two people had a really big impact on my career when I was starting out. My CD had been out for almost a year and only sold about four copies, so I was starting to doubt myself and my style. I was about to start recording a second CD that was more in keeping with what was happening on radio, which was more rock/grunge at the time. I got a call to tour with Bob Dylan (and took it, of course!) but never expecting to meet him. I got on stage every night, and after a week or so he called me down to visit. He had seen my show and talked to me a lot about my lyrics, he even quoted some of my lyrics back to me - I almost fainted. We talked about books and what I was reading, etc... I told him about my failed record sales and he told me just to keep touring solo acoustic like I was and telling stories. So that's what I did. After the Dylan gig, I got to tour with Neil Young, who was playing huge venues and stadiums with his rock band Crazy Horse, and here I was playing solo acoustic ... and it was hard! One night we were playing the famous Madison Square Garden. I was ill, and facing someone else's crowd solo was intimidating. I must have looked green because Neil came up to me in the hallway and said, "You look nervous. Why are you nervous?" And I said something about the fact that this was the GARDEN and he was NEIL YOUNG and I had no band. Neil looked me square in the eyes and said, "This is just another hash house on the road to success - you go out there and show them no respect!" I'm a fan of musicians, and I'm a fan of every contestant on this show. I have been told "no" countless times, but also encouraged at critical times. I am here to encourage the musicians on this show whether they win or not, because each of them are talented and, in my opinion, will all be just fine. They will find their way. - --------------------------------- Don't get soaked. Take a quick peak at the forecast with theYahoo! THIS IS NOT MINE; I FOUND IT ON SOMEONE'S BLOG. Friday, January 26, 2007 The Weary Eyes of Fame *THE WEARY EYES OF FAME * I walked in "Steak and Shake" last night about 1am, and sitting at the first table was none other than "Jewel". Jewel Kilcher, the folk rocker who sings "Who Will Save Your Soul", "Hands", "No More Alice in Wonderland", "There is No Giving Up In Love". She had just done an appearance on Nashville Star and was sitting there with her cowboy boyfriend and her manager and two other guys with stage passes on their necks. The first thing I noticed was that she is a LOT shorter than I thought she would be. The second thing. The 'Weary Eyes of Fame". I've met a few famous secular musicians, people like Jewel, Gretchen Wilson, Lucinda Williams, etc, and one or two Christian ones, such as Derek Webb and Plumb. The secular musicians that hit fame always have what I call "The Weary Eyes of Fame", its that look of a Soul that is not only Sad and Lonely, but utterly exhausted, and completely disappointed when they should be on top of the world. This is a look usually reserved for War Torn Veterans, Orphans, has-been Athletic Stars, flat broke Business Tycoons, and victims of Natural Disasters, I've known ALL of the above. It's the look of people that have reason to be disappointed, to be saddened because they've seen and experienced too much to smile. The problem is that the "Weary Eyes of Fame" belong to people who should be on the top of the world. They are millionaires, on the top of the charts, welcomed everywhere they go, the first born of the spotlight and the center of the Universe wherever they go. They have what everyone wants, everyone at Belmont, everyone in Nashville, every try -out for American Idol and Nashville Star. They are living everyone else's dream and yet their eyes belong to someone that hasn't slept in weeks or that can't escape a recurring nightmare. How did they get those weary eyes? They pinned their hopes on Fame and on Fortune that falls off the walls, on the Love of a sea of Fans which they drown in, on the shine of a Platinum Record that leaves them blind. They knew for certain that happiness, that elusive fish that nobody can catch, would be in their hands once and for all. And happiness, happiness wasn't on the line when they pulled it out of the waters of success. Just another old shoe, another disappointment that what they thought would make them happy left them cold. The "Weary Eyes of Fame" are filled with a strange mix of jealousy and pity, when they look upon all the kids in the crowd that still have HOPE, that if they could just sing like that, look like that, get that Record Deal, then all would be right in the World. Getting what you've always Hoped for sometimes only brings greater sadness, because before yesterday you had Hope, and today you have only Disappointment. I've also met famous Christian Musicians, Derek Webb, and Plumb, they don't have those Weary Eyes of Fame. Many Christian/CHURCHian Musicians do, the ones that let it be all about them, but Derek Webb and Plumb, they don't have those WEARY EYES. If you listen to them (Derek and Plumb) speak, you'll see that the music is not about them, the Spotlight is not about the them and everyone wanting to be them, be with them, be like them. Its about a purpose much larger than themselves. Sure, they may get tired, but they are not Worn Out. They may have disappointments if a record fails, but they are not crushed, in fact, Derek Webb often just gives his music away online. The secret of Life, or at least, Surviving Fame, is this kiddos (since most of you go to Belmont and are majoring in Rock Star Studies). Find SOMETHING larger than yourself, and Fight Like Hell for it. If its all about you, then its all going to be just a very, very big disappointment one day. Look at Solomon, richest, smartest, most loved man in half of history, and at the end of his life he wrote Ecclesiastes just to say "When its all about you, its nothing but an Empire of Dirt". Johhny Cash came to the same conclusions, so did Jewel. Don't learn the hard way. Keep a bright fire in your glare, not the "Weary Eyes of Fame". ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V12 #18 ***************************
