(baby pictures) [ Subject: Re: [EDA] jewel on american idol Let it be known that two cents Canadian is worth more today that almost at any time in the history of this list! Sure, there was a time late last year when it may have been worth more, but, it's still a long ways from where it's been ( : I had a book once, when two cents Canuck wasn't worth so much - Toxic Fame was the name. By Joey Berlin. I loaned it to a singer-songwriter I know and have yet to get it back. That's ok. I've read it. And I'm not about to become famous. The one Amazon.com review I can find of the book says, succinctly: "A thick 500 page book full of quotes from countless celebrities about the frustrations and absurdities involved in being a public figure. Anyone who dreams of being famous, anyone who has been starry eyed upon discovering a star should read this book. It will make you a little more respectful of their privacy." My cents is that most anyone who witnessed the first years of Jewel's truly meteoric rise to mega-fame will recognize The Artist Formerly Known as Swiss Miss was more accessible and gracious in so being than anyone has a right to expect. There's a price to be paid in this culture for being a celebrity. Unless one walks a mile in those shoes, it can be awfully hard to appreciate the peculiar balance of humanity and sanity. peace, Ad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 19:57:35 +0000 (GMT) From: "Kiera @ JKF" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: I just had a baby! Congrats Melissa. I'm looking forward to starting my own family. Hopefully soon. By the way, I was also born with the umbilical cord around my neck. It was obviously worrying for my parents but I was perfectly fine and still am. I wish you all the best of luck for your future together as a family. Hi everyone! I just wanted to tell everyone that my husband and I have a beautiful new son! (the first boy in 4 generations on my side and my first baby!) He was born this past Wed 1/17 at 2:40pm at SW Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. He was over 41 weeks and had to be induced (he got too comfortable) due to low amniotic fluid. I had to go to the hospital from my Dr. apointment which was very unexpected. He had a marconium stool in the womb which concerned the Dr. and the cord ended up wrapped around his neck twice, but I was able to give birth to him naturally. We surprised the doctors and the neonatal team on standby by birthing a very healthy 6lb 15oz baby boy despite his "drama." He was 19.5 inches long :). Sorry for the long email not related to Jewel, but he is my first so I'm sure all of you parents can relate. I'm so proud of my little man! Here's pictures, although they are fuzzy and don't give him any justice. He looks just like his daddy! http://www.growingfamily.com/webnursery/babypage_view.asp?URLID=8X3H0U9V8L Smiles and blessings, Melissa ~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~-~~ http://www.everythingbreaks.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 12:26:02 -0800 (PST) From: Josie Sianez Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V12 #15 Quick (and dumb) question- where do I go to see archives of the list? She's also the cohost of the kinder country knockoff, "Nashville Star." She spoke to Ramin Setoodeh. What's it like judging "Idol"? It really is heartbreaking, seeing those kids walk out of there dejected. But there were so many terrible performers. I thought a lot of the contestants were going to know they sucked and do it as a joke. I was shocked at the seriousness of them. They really, really believed they were going to win. The difference between the two--what they are, what they think they are--is so great, there's no way to bridge it. All of a sudden you're shattering somebody's perception of themselves. Do you think the show was too mean? They let through people who believe in themselves, and they're not necessarily great. It was a lot more brutal than usual. Simon's always Simon. But Randy was harsher, too. I only had to do one 10-hour day. My guess is, they've been traveling a lot and their nerves grew thin. What was Simon like? Simon is great. He knows what he's doing. I think a lot of what he says is accurate. I just think sometimes he goes overboard to be mean. Did you and Paula fight? No! We got along pretty good. We were all teasing each other. Are you on the set of "Nashville Star" now? I am. We have a taping tonight, so we're starting to get into glam. You're the Ryan Seacrest of "Nashville Star." Now, what have I ever done to you to deserve that? - -- When not auditioning Tim McGraw wannabes, she's spinning these discs. 1. LORETTA LYNN "The Pill" Back to the Country, 1975 (MCA) "Lynn's writing inspired me because she spoke so straightforwardly about really taboo topics, things that women weren't really talking about, like birth control." 2. JONI MITCHELL Blue, 1971 (Reprise) "Her voice is poetic. She reminds me of an Anaos Nin. [Mitchell] and Lynn tried to talk about real issues; they weren't covering up." 3. NINA SIMONE "The Other Woman" Nina Simone at Town Hall, 1959 (Colpix) "Nina Simone was the first punk rocker--she was mad as hell. You heard passion and anger and riotous emotion whenever she sang." 4. THE REPLACEMENTS "Unsatisfied" Let It Be, 1984 (Twin/Tone) "There was a genuine angst. It didn't necessarily have to do with politics as much as it did personal politics, which I responded to." 5. DAVID GRAY Life in Slow Motion, 2005 (ATO) "As fans, we usually fall in love with an artist's first record; I've found that with my career. But if you heard Motion, you would love it just the same as [Gray's earlier work]. It's as strong lyrically and melodically." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 20:12:07 -0800 (PST) From: eliot lemoncelli Subject: [EDA] nashville star I'm an Avid ER fan... so I've missed nashville star lately.
