She has never been consistently one of those stars that seeks to interact with people - *especially fans* - since 1999 or so. We love her because we're fans, but the truth is that is just who she is. == Rob == ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2007 13:53:52 EST From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] jewel on american idol I think that's the trap of idol worship in general. No one is ever going to live up in person to a worshipper's perception (perception of perfection? lol). If you do meet your "idol" you're bound to be dissappointed...especially if they don't put you through to the next round. We know a lot of people whose life she has affected in extremely positive ways, and she has much much more to accomplish. So what if she's a Gemini and shifts her focus rather rapidly and randomly? She's our gift, she's an inspiration, and we all hope she sees the importance and the urgency of her mission soon. Jewel, if you can get this message, don't underestimate your importance. It's nothing without love. - -=-Larry-=- On 1/24/07, W1GGY2@aol.com wrote: > > > I think that's the trap of idol worship in general. No one is above that standard. No one. When Lara and I went to the first show of the last tour with Rob Thomas, we arrived more than an hour early to deliver the EDA birthday card. We went to the stage entrance area by where the tour buses were parked. The area was surrounded by a chain link fence and, of course there was security at the gate. Jewel was standing in the parking area with a few of the band members. We called her name only once. She turned, looked at us holding her book (and the card). We waved and she just turned around without any acknowledgement. We were the only two people standing there for more than half an hour. She knew we were there, but never even looked over. Eventually, she just got on her bus to prepare for the show. Ty came out by himself a little while later to walk George (her Shitzu...which looked kind of funny), and when we called out, "Howdy Ty," he looked over and waved. And when Lenedra came out of the bus with Jewel and her whole group as they were headed to the building, Lenedra looked over without our having to say anything, and gave us a really big smile and a hardy wave. We had managed to send the card into the bus with Jewel's tour manager Annie about 20 minutes earlier, so Nedra knew who we were. And I'm sure Jewel did too. From Jewel we got...not a thing. Not a wave...nothing. She never even looked over. A nod, a wave, a smile, anything to just acknowledge our presence would have at least been polite. We never expected her to ask us to join the party, but we were surprised to be so blatantly snubbed. It was just rude. Ty acknowledged us, Nedra acknowledged us, and Jewel treated us with contempt. That's just what happened. I love her music, her voice, and her writing skills are amazing. I can't imagine how many hours of enjoyment I've gotten from my Jewel collection. No complaints there but, I don't see any good reason for not at least acknowledging the fans that have come out to see her perform, as she walks in the building. It doesn't take any time out of anyone's day to be polite, and it doesn't cost anything.
