I just happened to come across her singing Stevensville Texas song. She was the entertainment and the MC said she was just like the great Joni Mitchell." I'm sure Joni would be horrified at the comparison. Jewel is Jewel, not Joni! Whoever made that comparison is entitled to their opinion, but there is only one Joni and Jewel will never be Joni. Reminds me of when the democratic VP said to Dan Quayle, "Senator, you are no John F. Kennedy". Of course in this case it wasn't Jewel comparing herself to Joni, but an overly zealous MC. She's Jewel and she's good, but lord knows she ain't no Joni! (which is good, she's herself). - ----- ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. (?) Was just chatting with Amy (w1ggy2) about "the good ol' days" while watching youtube videos of the VH1 Duets special with Melissa Etheridge (and Jewel, Paula Cole, Joan Osborne, Sophie B Hawkins) when I stumbled upon the resurrected site of a an oldtime favorite jewel fansite, Adam Longfellow's piecesofjewel.com! Don't know how long Adam has had the site back up, but it seems it was gone at least five years or so. One of the best (of many) features of this site was the early Jewel Performance Chronology which is a pretty extensive listing of Jewel performances dating back to 1993, and the chronology is back! Don't know how long the site has been back online, but way to go Adam! I had some of them wrong and I believe Rachel helped fix them up. If you see anymore mistakes, feel free to fix them on the Jewel Wiki. On the page, you can see what shows it has been performed at so far. If you click on any of the shows, you might also see people who have a copy of said shows and are interested in a trade. :) Don't be shy about emailing them or adding yourself to the wiki. I'd be more than happy to help anyone out who needs it. Robby http://www.jewelwiki.com/pmwiki.php?n=Songs.GetReadyBoy In the absence of daylight I try to find my time It's never on my wrist but it's always in my mind In every great romance there's a dragon to be slayed This is ours, I hope that you see it this way I'm gonna love you with all I got So get ready, steady yourself, cause it's a lot Love is great, yeah, love is grand, But it's hard, and it's cruel It's rough to understand But I'm tougher than most Gonna show you what I mean I'm gonna love you so hard Gonna make you come undone at the seams I'm gonna pounce on you with all I've got So get ready, steady yourself, cause it's a lot Love's not for the faint of heart Cracked at the first resistance Love takes tear and guts and grease to go the distance So you Better get ready, boy, you Better be ready, boy, you Better get ready, boy, you better get ready, boy, I'm gonna give you all I got Gonna give you all I got Gonna give you all I got And it's a lot If this song sounds familiar, it's because you hear her singing part of it on the "Behind the Scenes" part of her "Stripped" performance. :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Dec 2006 18:33:15 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] Foolish Lord Of The Ring Games Being home sick today, I've been YouTubing for the first time (still had dialup until recently), and I've either been looking up some old TV appearances of songs from long ago (such as "In The Year 2525" from 1969 and some Badfinger faves), but also viewing a lot of covers of Jewel songs to see people's takes on them. There are a LOT of covers of most of Jewel's releases, some very good, some quite bad and some VERY VERY bizarre. Also, interesting are the many re-doings of Jewel's video's of those songs, using jewel's versions of the songs. Some serious (and quite good) and some also, VERY bizarre. The most bizarre find so far is a video of clips from the Lord Of The Rings films combined with Jewel's Foolish Games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eL9W99Cpso It's almost like he picked a DVD blindfolded and then a CD blindfolded and viola! I don't know what his real inspiration was, but if it was either alcohol or drug induced, I'm sure to steer clear of both! Gotta tell you though...I don't know if Jewel herself has actually done this yet, but she should sit down and watch a lot of these covers of her songs and read some of the commentary. If nothing else, it shows how her songs have moved many people (especially Foolish Games).
