[Fjjordao ] [EDA] Jewel to sing at the NASCAR Awards Ceremonies [Fjjordao Subject: [EDA] Milwaukee Review...(kinda long) Well let me start out by telling you that I didn't get tickets until the night before. I was gonna be pissed if I didn't go, but I went. Early that afternoon we went driving around to see if we could catch a glimpse of her going into her hotel or something. Every other time that she came, she stayed at the Phister hotel. Well as far as I know, she didn't end up there this year. There were no tour buses there, but there were tour buses at the Hilton and at the Hyatt. The tour buses that were at the Hyatt were also there the night before (we went to a hotel party there that night), and I'm sure they weren't hers, as she was in Michigan. So I'm guessing it was her at the Hilton. Oh well, didn't get to meet her this time around, but that's okay. We got to the casino at like 7:30, for the 8:00 pm show. This was the smallest venue played on the tour, and in recent years. The theatre only seats 600, so it was, of course, almost an instant sell out. The theatre is set up that there is table and booth seating on the floor, and traditional theatre seating in the balony. It's a very small theatre. You're not more than 50 feet from the stage in any seat in the house. Which, of course, made it a VERY intimate evening. Poltz came on at 8:00 for an interesting set. Let me say that I'm not a fan of his by any means. I'm not saying that I hate him or his art, but I'm not a fan. Nothing personal. But I'll be damned, he made me laugh. He took a tape recorder and made a tape while on the road from Michican to Milwaukee. He sang a duet with it, and then had an arguement with it. It was hysterical/odd. But entertaining. Jewel came on at nine. For those of you who care, she was wearing an ugg-ish type boot, blue jeans, and a polka-dotted top with a beater under it. She opened with Over the Rainbow, but has slowed it down since last years tour. Showed her vocal range well. She then went into Near You Always, after asking if we could hear the guitar. Brief intro about how stalking like she did is illeagal in most states, then went into a nice version of Passing Time. Then it was time for 1,000 miles away. It was the first time I've heard it live. It also seam slowed down a little bit, and she articulated it very well. As she did for the whole show. She made sure you heard every word and understood what she was saying. Which was refreshing cause sometimes the guitar drowns her out, as does her band. Anyways, 1,000 Miles Away broke your heart. It hurt you to hear her sing it. Then she did a new song, didn't give us a title. But the chorus was something like "I'm gonna give you all the love I got, so steady yourself, cause it's alot." Good song. Then she started playing Down So Long, but stopped and asked if we'd rather hear that or Life Uncommon. Life Uncommon won. She then played New Wild West and really got into it. Sounded great. Then she did Hands. After Hands she stopped and someone commented that she was great on Men In Trees. She said thanks, and that it was a little weird but she got through it. Then someone yelled out "Mick and Rosey", and she said "Rosy and Mick?" And he said yea, he'd do anything to hear her sing it. Then a few people yelled "Shut Up!" but she said you don't have to shut up, I'll play it in a little bit. Then he yelled out "Did you ever finish the Cable Man song with Poltz?" And she kinda paused and said "How did you know that?" and that she didn't remember what he was talking about. Then he said something like "I'll come to Stephenville!" and she said "We have restraining orders there...and shot guns." Then she sang Stephenville. And replaced Martha Stewart with Rachael Ray. Then she did his request for Rosy and Mick, and it was the first time I heard it live. It was great. "I'm sorry does not mend a broken heart" really hit home. Then she did "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" and it also broke your heart. It felt like you were in a room alone with her and she was saying it just to you. Amazing. Then she did "Angel" by request, and told a story about how she grew up listening to family sing country music around the campfire or something like that. And she said how she'd wear lederhoshen? while performing with her dad, and some guy cheered for that, so she said "You sick bastard. There is nothing sexy about a 7 year old in lederhosen". Pretty funny. Never had heard Angel live before either. Then she sang Violet Eyes (also with almost too much emotion for everyone to handle) and Morning Song. Then she told a story and did "Race Car Driver". Then she did Intuition and Good Day. Good Day was great. The guitar was more complex then it had been. When she first started doing it acoustically a few years back, the guitar was pretty simple on it but now theres more of it and it sounds a lot like the cd. Poltz came back out and they did Silver Lining. The sound amazing when they harmonize. Then the guy once again requested "The Cable Man Song" and Steve told Jewel the first part of the song. For those of you who dont know the song, he sang it on the Life Uncommon DVD and said they never got to finish the song. I've always refered to the song as A Million Miles Away. Well anways they attemped the song and did pretty good. The second verse Poltz improvised about Milwaukee. Pretty cool. Is this the only time in MANY years that they've done the song? Then they did Love Is A Rose (a Neil Young cover), with a yodel at the end that they both did. Then they did You Were Meant for Me, and she had forgotten that he was gonna sing the second verse. =) Poltz exited the stage and she did Foolish Games. Damn, another one that hurt you. So much emotion. She finished with Who Will Save Your Soul. Encores were Per la Gloria and Chime Bells. She was amazing. Pretty long set, 25 songs in all. Last time she was here I think she did like 16. Would've like to hear Break Me and Standing Still, but oh well. It was like seeing her at a coffee house because the theatre is so small. You felt like it was only her and you in that room. Vocals were AMAZING, no strain hitting high notes or anything. I've seen her 11 times and have been to like 70 concerts in all, and it was by far the most amazing concert I've ever been to. She's incredible and she's still got it =) Did anyone get pictures, or maybe even audio? Let me know. _________________________________________________________________ Get FREE company branded e-mail accounts and business Web site from Microsoft Office Live http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/mcrssaub0050001411mrt/direct/01/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2006 22:58:56 -0200 From: Fjjordao Subject: [EDA] Jewel to lead "Arthur and the Invisibles" soundtrack!! Jewel was amazing! There was a orchestra for the last 4 or 5 songs. Poltz was not there and she played for about 2 1/2 hours. It was taped for Soundstage. We were in the fifth row on the end and at the end of the show a cameraman videoed me clapping for about 20 seconds. It was a blast! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #286 ****************************
