(not too exciting but... i was bored =) On Stage: Jewel Posted: Nov. 23, 2006 8 p.m. Sunday, Northern Lights Theater, Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 1721 W. Canal St. Sold out. The flirtation with dance-pop seems to be over. On her new disc, "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland," Jewel seems to be returning to the more personal folk-pop style that has defined most of her musical output. Jewel has been describing the new disc as a kind of musical autobiography. She's always been an introspective artist, but "Alice" has drawn praise for a fresh maturity in her songwriting. - - Dave Tianen, _________________________________________________________________ Talk now to your Hotmail contacts with Windows Live Messenger. http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwme0020000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://get.live.com/messenger/overview ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2006 08:14:05 EST From: HMN333@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Niagara Falls,NY show Anybody go last night? I thought it was a great show, as always. It'd been 2 yrs since I'd seen her in concert, probably the longest "break" ever, so I was really excited. I do have to say though, I knew every one of the stories she told, lol.. I think she needs some new "material". But the singing was fabulous, so what more can you ask for? I don't remember the setlist (I know, what kind of review-er am I....) She sang the "Cold Song" which I loved, I don't think I've heard that live before. Also "Just Passing Time" (also loved). I think she sang a good mix of songs, mostly older. She was wearing a really pretty purple dress with cowboy boots (boots of some sort anyway, I couldn't get a good look at them). Steve Poltz was good too, I had seen him a looooong time ago so it was nice to see him again. He said he'd be outside after Jewel to sign autographs, I was tempted but my mom wanted to get going.. oh well! Hope everyone else enjoyed it who went! ~Heather ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2006 10:28:43 -0500 From: giggly77@rochester.rr.com Subject: [EDA] November 24th show Last night my husband and I went to see Jewel at Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls, NY. It was an amazing time. She looked beautiful, purple long sleeved dress, big hoop earings, and necklace. I think she was wearing brown boots. we were center section, row 12. Not the best seats, but pretty damn good. Steve (Poltz) opened the show. He seemed stiff and came off as dorky. He kinda bobbed and jerked with the guitar; he couldn't stay still. Not sure of everything he played, but some were: 10 Things, Alphabet, a song whose chorus was "Hollywood and baseball in the car," I Love Everything About You, and Silver Lining. It was a very short set. Steve left the stage and then the set up for Jewel began. They had a table with a vase of flowers, and at least 2 guitars. Jewel came out and began singing Over the Rainbow, acapella. This was the first time I heard her sing it live, it was incredible. Then came Near You Always. This was the song that made me a fan. At the Geneseo show, she opened with it, and I was hooked. Before that concert, I knew very little about Jewel. This song could have been my anthem back then. The rest was as follows: Passing Time Little Sister 1000 Miles Away Down so Long Life Uncommon Hands Bob Dylan story Stephenville Goodbye Alice in Wonderland Break Me Morning Song story about favorite song Cold Song Violet Eyes story about social anxiety/meet & greets/armpit height/dentist Intuition Foolish Games YWMFM Kermit story WWSYS leaves stage Per La Gloria Chime Bells I've heard a bunch live before, but I loved hearing them all again. I'd never seen Violet Eyes live, it may just become my new favorite. Like Jessica, it brought tears to my eyes. And seeing her perform it was so emotional. This was a wonderful show. The crowd was great, very respectful. Jewel was funny and entertaining, and almost 10 years after my first show, I'm still a devoted fan. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2006 14:00:38 -0600 From: "Rob Hanning" Subject: RE: [EDA] November 24th show Well, Steve IS (or at least CAN be) "dorky". And he never stays still on stage -- it's that darn adult ADD/hyperactivity thing. He's always moving. As for his setlist, those first three are Ten Chances, ABCs of Love, & Brief History of My Life. :-) - --------------------------------------------- http://www.myspace.com/justfrag - ----Original Message Follows---- From: giggly77@rochester.rr.com To: jewel@smoe.org Subject: [EDA] November 24th show Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2006 10:28:43 -0500 Steve (Poltz) opened the show.
