RE: Stephenville, TX video Does Anyone else feel like Jewel is running for Congress this mid-term? It's like you could compare the video for Intuition to the "Scream Heard Round the World" from Howard Dean... blown way out of proportion but still very scary on the surface. Personally, I like this new video.. it's very homogenous. I've also always liked the song (not my favorite, but I like the reference to Goddard). So Intuition was a culture-satire and I guess I always felt like Stephenville was also a social-commentary song, but woven in with all of the backyard barbeque footage is a little surreal.... In the end I feel like the character in the video is just as conflicted as the character in the lyrics ... which is a great accomplishment if that was the intent. With all of the TV appearances (7th Heaven, Las Vegas.. the Nashville thing), it's like she's going around stumping a new image, and I really have to give her credit for the transition she's made the last.. haha 10 years and today I'm giving her more credit for her versatility than I have in the past (personally).. The most interesting thing for me watching this video (and the reason I've been wandering mindlessly through this email) is that this song in the context of where her career is today seems to take on a meaning of a lack of identity... and taking out the word "shitty" in front of hotel, but leaving in words like sycophants and troubadour and the reference to Goddard, and pairing that with the aforementioned homogenous backyard scenes.. all together it lacks identity. it makes me feel bad for our girl that she's STILL "too far from home, all alone on the road, trying to figure out who I am..." ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #258 ****************************
