Danny Bonaduce!) *Well, since the names are being dropped, I can report that I don't talk to Jewel about her videos, but she did express apology to me after the show (as if I need to hear Jewel apologize for ANYTHING) for not having "her" crowd at the Santa Barbara Bowl and said that she will have a better time when she and her band go out and do a solo tour soon. She still has "crowd control" under control. She gracefully dissed a "lady" in the third row for talking on the cell phone during her performance. She was much more shy back stage after her performance, where my new wife and I met her with Ty and with Eric Greenspan, her (amazing) music attorney. She also expressed support for me opening my own law offices (as of today, actually -- e-me personally for details) and continuing in complex business and entertainment litigation and deal-making as well as mediation and alternative dispute resolution, which she told me I am very good at (I helped her with that with the Inga V. litigation dispute). Jewel is really much more shy in person than on stage. I love to remember Tara MacLean's remark at the Troubadour in L.A. in 1988 to a noisy crowd, saying that "if I were Jewel, I'd tell you all to go f*ck yourselves." Priceless.* ** *I do have a book (or long magazine article) in here somewhere, but I'm too busy trying to make a living and protect Jewel's privacy and help her actualize her potential.* *Do surgeons want their patients to have surgery?* *I want my clients NOT to need my services. It may be somewhat enlightened, but it's a very indirect route to personal prosperity in the short term. On the other hand, it's worth the light that it reveals, and I am grateful for Jewel's support.* ** *Enough name dropping, Mike? * ** *P.S. I skipped over it and continued on with my day. Now that I sit down and listen to, I'm mentally kicking myself. I was breaking my own rule and not really listening to it. With all of the things going on in my life, I really have started to fall in love with the song and what it says. We all know what it's like to wake up at 1 AM and not be sure why we're wake, or maybe we are sure, we just don't want to be. I think that's usually the case. I love the feeling of being in her head. It's gonna be okay. Yeah. It is. Really it is. I'm okay. Yeah.. I'm.. I'm okay. She's trying so hard to convince herself that it's gonna be okay. It's gonna be a good day... because it has to be. The harsh feeling of, I'll make it a good day. And even if it's not, I'll pretend it is, and then maybe it will be. The few lines that give insight into her real thoughts, her real feelings, into the place in her head, where everything isn't perfect. And that's what I love about the video. First of all, I love the way they shot it. It reminds me a little of the intuition video, with the switching between the different kinds of videoing depending on where she is. I really like the contrast between the too bright, too colorful, very fake outside to the soft subtle shadowy home. I like watching this fake outside, the extreme of teh "perfect" america. The boy with that baseball bat and his dad, the gardener, teh couple waving, the little girl with hr mother, the children playing hopscotch. When suddenly... you see it splinter and you see teh real world show through. I like watching that, teh remembrance, that no matter how perfect an exterior is... no one and nothing is completely perfect. I like how the video does that. In all honesty I expected another Again and Again video, which I was disappointed with since I don't like videos where it's the artist singing at different angles with no real substance to talk of. I'm very glad it wasn't and I'm very glad that I gave the song another chance and I'm grouchy with myself for being so close-minded in the first place. :-P ~Kate The Philosophical Fifteen Year Old Angel "The stars are bright. He's a good sport though and is a fan of anything I'm interested in just because I'm interested in it.
