I am so bummed, especially since everyone thought it was the best version of Good Day so far -- a song I really like, and contrary to opinion, am thrilled that it is the second single! If someone has it, please email me directly. Therefore, I've always looked at it from a perspective of her in the same context as Alice when she talks about hitting bottom (personally) when she reached the top (professionally) and the issues with being famous and the toll it takes on life. I take the circus to be the outside world in all forms - -- press, fans, audience, loneliness after a show (weight of the curtain) -- no one to share life with, etc. I'm probably wrong -- I agree, I wish she'd explain these songs in an interview or maybe we should ask it on unedited and see if that's a question she will answer for the Q & A. Last Dance -- sorry NO real, legitimate idea. I think it's just about an observational character in a general love song. Since she wrote that one early on -- and on the way up in a sense when she was working a ton, who knows. If you remember, that song was the one she was working on when the DVD was shot -- and I think she was in Norway -- or somewhere in Europe. Remember her singing the bridge and chorus on the bed in the hotel using Blue on the DVD? We should ask her -- remember this question when she's on a radio call in or something! Has Mr. BB every asked? Does he know? See ya, T On Jul 10, 2006, at 12:05 AM, jewel-digest wrote: > Long Slow Slide / Last Dance Rodeo > > Can someone please explain these songs to me? If anything exists, it would be news to us. The recordings that do exist from 1988 are shows with her dad. It's primarily his repertoire with Jewel singing harmony, but she does sing lead on a few covers here and there. Her songs were typical fair for the time. Same songs many aspiring folksinger's were covering back then. She had good taste in material, but nothing too surprising - songs like John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" (more well known by Bonnie Raitt) and Kris Kristofferson's "Me & Bobby McGee" (Janis Joplin style, natch), although she sometimes belted out the theme song to "The Rose" movie, which is off the beaten path of most aspiring folksingers. Oh, and of course the ubiquitous "Needle & The Damage Done," which is like the first song almost everyone learned on acoustic guitar in those days. Anyway.... I guess it's possible somebody recorded Le Creme during the weeks she was involved, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. It's just as possible that no recordings exist. Stranger things have surfaced though, so who knows? Alan NP: "Naked Movie Star Saves The World" - working title for a forthcoming album of studio outtakes and rarities from Cindy Lee Berryhill's early anti-folk days. I'm currently helping her with this project and enjoying it immensely. (Her first two albums, back in the late 1980s, were called "Who's Gonna Save The World" and "Naked Movie Star," hense the title.) An album of new CLB material is also underway. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #182 ****************************
