I'm sorry, but you'll have to wade through some pictures of my friends and me, but right under there, there are the photos from the concert. I didn't really review it, but thought some people would be interested in at least seeing some pics. There is a picture of Jewel and some dude in plaid - that is Atz, her brother. She invited him up to play harmonica during Love Me Just Leave Me Alone. http://ilovetobabble.blogspot.com/2006/07/long-overdue-update.html Elizabeth ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Jul 2006 17:46:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Nomura Subject: [EDA] Anaheim/Santa Barbara Well these 2 shows were my 8th and 9th Jewel shows and I'm sure my opinion won't be popular here but I found the shows kind of boring. I haven't seen her with a band since '02 so that was cool, but the setlist was clearly built for an opener, not a headliner. I used to love Satellite until it got rocked up for the Alice CD, never could get into that version. Also, despite the Alice In Wonderland backdrops she did not do the title track, opting for Again and Again and Good Day instead. I would much rather have heard Only One Too or Drive To You in such an arena setting. Also I think I must be the only one that has heard Foolish Games, You Were Meant For Me and Who Will Save Your Soul enough times that I'm totally sick of them. It was cool to hear Intuition with full band and also Standing Still, which she aborted mid-song last time I saw her in San Diego last year. Speaking of aborting songs, she aborted Foolish Games in Anaheim (and 2 years ago she aborted Here When Gone in San Diego). I wish she'd stop screwing around and just play the songs. Speaking of screwing around, as an opener with a limited time slot, she wasted far too much time talking. The social anxiety and Kermit the Frog stories are old and tired and storytelling doesn't seem suited for the larger venues. In Santa Barbara, she restarted Hands to get the audience singing. BTW, I snagged a setlist for the Santa Barbara show and it did list "Everybody Needs Someone???????" which clearly shows what we missed because she spends too much time talking. Anaheim 7/1/06 - -------------------------- Satellite Hands Again and Again Good Day Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Foolish Games (aborted) Break Me Foolish Games (acoustic) You Were Meant For Me (acoustic) Standing Still Intuition Who Will Save Your Soul Santa Barbara 7/2/06 - -------------------------- Satellite Hands (aborted) Hands Again and Again Good Day Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Break Me Foolish Games (acoustic) ---- (Bells might have been before Games) Chime Bells (acoustic) You Were Meant For Me (acoustic) Standing Still Intuition Who Will Save Your Soul Even the programs at the Santa Barbara show described the show as co-headliners but Jewel was clearly main support with only 65-70 min compared to Rob's nearly 2 hours. I wasn't really into Rob's music but he had good stage presence and put on a good show. In Anaheim he and Jewel did a really good version of Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. It was skipped in Santa Barbara. Since she was with Rob, I think a more rock-oriented setlist would have been better. Maybe bring back Down and some kickass cover like Dancing Barefoot. Or do something unexpected. How cool would it have been if Rob had come out during Jewel's set and had done Here Comes The Sun again? Then it would have felt more like co-headliners. Opener Toby Lightman was really good. I probably would not have been so disappointed if the shows weren't pushing $80 each. Anyone want a 3rd row ticket to the San Diego show? I'm about to put it on Craigslist for $76 (5 cents less than face with fees). It's in section C. You must be able to meet me on Jul 4 in Mira Mesa or Poway and pay cash (ticket is a hard ticket). Since this is time critical, please email me with your phone number. Thanks. ed ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #175 ****************************
