QUOTE("MrBB on Unedited Message Board") Hi all, Long time, no see. How are you these days? I'm doing well. Still running my archive management business, keeping busy and working with a bunch of fascinating people; Jewel among them. It was nice to see a few you last night at her Mohegan Sun gig. As some of you old-timers know, I'm often involved in the production process when live recordings of Jewel are involved. Over 150 live recordings have been featured on Jewel's websites over the years and a bunch more have been released on singles, albums, DVDs, etc. A few months ago, I was invited to produce a special CD EP featuring a few of the best live tracks that we've posted on Jeweljk.com and Unedited. Like "The Best Of Jewel:Unedited" DVD that was sent exclusively to 2005 Unedited members as a welcome gift, this new EP will be sent to 2006 Unedited members exclusively. Appropriately enough, the title is "The Best Of Jewel:Unedited 2006 EP" and it includes three unreleased live tracks, including one that has never been featured anywhere and is totally exclusive to this EP. The first track is a stripped down solo acoustic version of "The New Wild West," one of the more instrumentally adventurous tracks from Jewel's "This Way" album. We previously featured this during the early days of Unedited, but never in it's entirety. This is the complete performance, digitally transfered from the mixing desk DAT master. It's a particularly captivating version with a humorous twist in the lyric that is more appropriate now than it was when she sang it! (I'll leave it at that. See if you can spot this.) This was recorded at The Orpheum Theater in St. Louis, summer of 2005. Next up, we journey back to a song that Jewel has never officially released. We posted this on Jeweljk.com years ago and I think it still stands as the most popular audio ever featured. It unquestionably generated the greatest quantity of positive feedback that I've encountered over an audio clip. It's a highly charged electric performance of "Down," featuring the Spirit Tour band. This was the tour when Jewel began writing with an electric guitar and she pounds out some seriously infectious rhythm on this track. It remains one of the hardest rockin' tunes she's ever written. This song was always in a state of flux and never had a final set of lyrics but this particular version, recorded at Woodstock 99 before the biggest audience of her career, is the definitive version. I listened to every one of them and "Down" was never played tighter or with more passion from the band. I know many of you collectors already cherish this song from the various bootlegs made from the Woodstock 99 TV simulcast, but believe me, you have never heard it quite like this! Remixed here from the digital multitracks for the very first time. And finally, back even further to the Jewel song that first grabbed my full attention - "Amen." This performance, recorded at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Ireland during a 1997 solo tour of Europe, captures a deep moment and is a truly mesmerizing performance. Digitally mixed from the analog 4 track archive masters. (I keep an antiquated 4 track portastudio functioning here for just such occasions.) Beyond the few who attended this concert, this has never been heard before and is exclusive to this CD. I hope you enjoy having these tracks in such high quality, but there is another cool aspect of this little package -- The cover art featured on the EP sleeve was drawn by Jewel herself. Well, that's the scoop. I hear they'll begin sending the 2006 packages out this week. I'm unable to answer much email these days and haven't the time to stick around for questions, but I hope to pop in now and again. I'm off to log last night's show. I'll send a new audio to the webmasters soon. Something from the past few days. Stay tuned! Toby Lightman was awesome as usual, she only played about 4 songs though, I guess when you have two opening acts the first one can't get too much stage time. I've been a fan of hers for a few years, I was so excited when I found out she was going on tour with Jewel! A word of advice...since Toby's set is so short Jewel really is the "opening act"; the show started at 7:00 and Jewel came on at around 7:30 so don't show up late!! Jewel's set was really good. She seemed to be in a really good mood and had lots of audience interaction. When she started out the theatre was only about 1/3 full so she tried to convince all of the people in the nosebleed section to come down and fill in the front seats like seat fillers at the Oscars. The security guards wouldn't let that happen so during "Good Day" she threw in lyrics about how one in particular wasn't very nice. She only played two acoustic songs and took "requests" during that time. My boyfriend and I yelled out Nicotine Love but she didn't hear us :( I also noticed that she only played like two songs from GBAIW. It didn't seem like this was a tour to promote the album, I really hope that means she is going to tour again. I don't have a set list....but I think it's been pretty consistent so far... I'm missing songs but from my memory she opened with Foolish Games, Good Day, Everybody Needs Someone Sometimes, Love Me Just Leave Me Alone, Break Me, Morning Song, and ended with Who Will Save Your Soul. I think she probably realized she was going to be playing to a mostly Rob Thomas crowd so she had to pull out her old radio hits in order to keep everyone interested. We didn't stay for Rob Thomas so I can't tell you how he was. But after spending 20 hours of shooting a video for Good Day, shes much more hopeful about the release of her next single. [TABLE NOT SHOWN] Its also a bit ambitious, but I think itll sound good on the radio, she said. It deals with issues of acceptance on a romantic level, (how) to discern between dreaming and pretending. Making the video was fun, but we were flying by the seat of our pants with only one day to work. No second takes. We did it as a minimovie with the verses as reality, portrayed in black and white. Then the choruses come as an escape into a fantasy with a big burst of color. ________________________________________________ Wireless Internet Ltda -- www.wnetrj.com.br ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 11:59:13 -0400 From: Sasafrass Subject: Re: [EDA] Good Day video news!
