She gives GAIW two-and-a-half stars out of four. Her very short review: Jewel, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland - Having deftly dabbled in dance-music textures on her last studio album, 2003's 0304, Jewel reclaims, or at least re-emphasizes, her roots as a sensitive folk-pop troubadour. The singer is no longer the earnest inginue she was in the '90s, as tracks such as the romantically ambivalent single Again and Again and the pointed Stephenville, TX make clear. Though not as adventurous as some of her more recent work, Goodbye confirms that Jewel hasn't lost her sense of wonder. - Gardner ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 May 2006 07:03:24 -0500 From: "Matt Sullivan" Subject: [EDA] mtvnews.com blurb. Jewel of the Pile: Like a diamond in the rough, Jewel's sixth record, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland, may very well be drowned out by this week's louder releases. But give her some rock credit where it's due: She did re-record the LP with Green Day producer Rob Cavallo after she wasn't happy with the first go-round, even if, on "Satellite," she says rock and roll can't mend her broken heart. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! I have all your bootlegs, including the acoustic "Free as a Bird". I have songs that nobody has ever heard! I even have the live version of "Piggies"!!! : Thanks, Fan. I hope you like what me, George, and Ringo did by finishing John's song. <#1BeatlesFan>: Er, actually, I think it's a bit overdone. It was fine just as it was - did you HAVE to add all that production? I mean, drums, guitars, bass, and such? : Well, yes - isn't that the point? You superfans have all the obscurities ... live this, unreleased that.... but we make music for the masses. Plus, we thought it sounded nice like that. <#1BeatlesFan>: You should make music only for the superfans! Put out a disc of only the songs we already have!!!! : What a twit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's to a healthy exchange of opinions, but let's all crawl off our superfan pedestals and just enjoy this new music Jewel has given everyone. - --------------------------------- Get amazing travel prices for air and hotel in one click on Yahoo! Depends on how technical you are but the information may be retrievable. Is it just that the OS won't boot? You could install one of the 'dodgy' hard disks as a secondary disk to your machine and retrieve the files from it that way. Often that has happened to PC's in my workplace. I fix PC's for a living so I know it is fairly plausible that this is what you can do to retrieve your data. If you use Windows, it is most likely the stupid operating system has decided not to boot. Are you getting any error messages? If so, what are they. This could be ok if I have all the info. I might be able to help you get your existing stuff back. Will do my best. I ended up finding almost every single song listed on Pieces of UK, and then some. I had a number of live shows, radio recordings, and on and on. Anyway, my two hard drives just died out on me, deleting everything on my PC. I bought a new HD today, but now I'm Jewel-less. If any of you guys are willing to help me out, both those who helped me to start with and anyone else out there, I'd be forever grateful. As you can imagine, I don't have much to trade right now, but I promise you that I'll make it worth your while eventually if need be. I've contributed a bit to this group, with the Yahoo exclusives and that sort of thing, and will be downloading and uploading another net exclusive set (strippedmusic.com) once that is online. After the poorly received rhythmic dance of 2003's "0304," "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" returns Jewel to her folk/pop roots, serving up her usual host of poetic metaphors for lessons learned and observations on humanity. Gorgeously produced by Rob Cavallo with a dominant palette of guitars and keyboards, the set's strongest tracks are among Jewel's best. Hit single "Again and Again" percolates with signature vim, while "Good Day," "Fragile Heart" (a new take from its first appearance on "0304") and "Long Slow Slide" are as astute as they are insatiably melodic. Elsewhere, the autobiographical "Stephenville, TX" is so confessional that it tells the artist's story like a one-on-one conversation. Mighty fine work. I find that highly unlikely. I think they are taking you for a ride. Is it definitely the hard drive or is it the Fan on the Processor or the power supply that they were talking about. In all my years in IT, I have never come across a 'motor' going in a hard drive. I'm not saying it's impossible but extremely rare. To me anyway. lumkinsc98@aol.com wrote: I took it to a computer store to have it checked, and they said the motor, or something I forget, isn't even working, like it's a physical problem. (and no, I'm not being sarcastic) Many people are blind fans, meaning they'll love whatever their favorite artist throws at them and then bitch when other fans actually take the music into account and criticizes it. I'm one of the biggest fans of Jewel that you'll ever meet, and I'm not afraid to stand up and say that 0304 sucked through and through (with only a few somewhat bright spots here and there). I haven't listened to the new album all the way through yet, but I will soon. I hate hearing the songs that we've all known and heard for so long done in one style, then hearing them be so different now. Remember folks, just because you are a fan of something or someone does not mean that you shouldn't ever say anything negative about it at all. Heck, to me you are more of a fan when you speak your mind. I'm sure almost everyone on this list would rather hear the old style of Jewel music, loves her style live, etc... I may be wrong, but I think it's fair to say that. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2006 20:31:14 EDT From: IxLNiCoLeIxL@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] GAIW only $10 at Virgin! 9.99 at target with the target exclusive bonus dvd ;) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 May 2006 19:47:29 -0500 From: "Matt Sullivan" Subject: [EDA] Target DVD I dont know if anyone's posted it yet, but the Target DVD is 35 minutes long.
