This gets way too complicated but, for those of you interested in tickets for the new tour, you might find some of this story useful. My local venue for a Jewel show is Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida. Yes, I'm lucky enough to see the first show of the new tour. I intend to post a thorough review. I'm generally a pretty open-minded person. The show is May 23rd. I'd been watching Ticketmaster's website for sale dates since they announced the tour schedule. Day after day, no sale dates were being announced. It should be noted that I had let my Unedited membership expire. A year and a half to get my original membership package and no really worthwhile info on Jewel didn't impress me. Two weeks ago I called Ruth Eckerd Hall ticket office and asked about sale dates. They didn't know on-sale dates either, but told me that if I joined the hall (for $50) they could take a pre-order, and member's pre-orders would be filled before tickets went on sale to the general public. So, I joined the hall expecting to get some really good seats. Tickets finally went on sale to the general public on Friday April 28th so, I knew they must have processed all the member pre-orders. I called the hall Friday afternoon only to learn I was in the 20th row. Not bad seats, but certainly not what I expected. I spoke to the manager of the ticket office and was told that "the fan club" had taken every other row for the first 20 rows. The remaining seats in the first 20 rows were sold to members of the hall who are in what they call the "Dress Circle Club." It costs $1000 per year to join that group. So now I'm thinking I blew it by not joining Unedited for the presale, right? Unless you can log in to Unedited as a member, you can't even check on any Unedited presales. So I hurried to the Unedited website and grudgingly re-joined the "official" fan club. I logged in, went to "tickets" and guess what? There is no presale for the Clearwater show. Huh? So I went to Rob Thomas' website, and he actually has a phone number you can call without having to join his club. At least to get information. I called the number and a very helpful young man tells me all about the seats available through Rob Thomas' presale including "Gold Package" seats in the 2nd row ($165 each, including a t-shirt and some other crap - ticket value is $95). But, you have to join Rob's fanclub to get these seats. Other seats in the 8th row, center are just regular face value (still $75 each) and you still have to join his fanclub. Yep, I joined Rob's fanclub ($25 as opposed to Unedited at $30), and bought the 8th row seats, because I'm such a big JEWEL fan! Now here's the question: Why did Rob Thomas get ALL the premium fanclub seating and Unedited got NONE? Zero. We're talking about at least 300 seats reserved for "the fanclub." But none for Jewel's fans. Maybe Rob really is, "taking Jewel out on tour with him?" The RIAA website still puts Matchbox 20 behind Jewel in total album sales...for anyone actually counting. And Unedited gets second class treatment? Great management. I love Jewel, but her management is really something else. Aren't they supposed to promote her? To rally the support of her fans? I live in one of the top 10 radio markets in the US, I channel surf all the time, and I've only heard A&A one time. I'm can hardly imagine a less effective management group. Bring back Nedra. BTW, does anybody know where she's been the last few years? We haven't heard a thing about her. With all that negativity behind me, I'm really looking forward to the show. It's in a 2100 seat concert hall and I'm sure she'll sound great, if not at least controversial. Maybe she'll do an electrified version of Ave Maria? ;) Maybe sort of Dylan-esque? That would be bizzarre. We'll just have to wait and see. Anyone want to buy 2 seats in the 20th row, center? I'm sure I'll have no trouble selling them at face value. Just let me know. Two weeks ago I saw Jewel do an acoustic intimate performance in a radio station in Albuquerque, NM and she used a pic. She also did A&A in a stripped down form so the similarities to YWMFM were very apparent. -Jess ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 22:29:10 EDT From: MicheleMarie333@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Concert with Rob and I HEARD HER ON THE RADIO!!!!!! I also feel that she is saying that A&A is a more mature version of YWMFM. In the earlier song, it was about longing. The lovers were meant for each other, but she spent her days kind of waiting for the person to realize he was wrong and kind of accepting that "hearts are broken everyday." Whereas here, in A&A, it seems like the song, in my opion, is about two people who can't leave each others' minds. Instead of waiting or breaking up and realizing they were wrong, it's more like, "we should work it out." She has said in the past that relationships take work and I think this song reflects that idea - especially in this part: I know we said That we'd give up You said we'd had enough Again and again and again But you You're always on my mind It's like this all the time Say it's 'cause your mine All mine anyway, that's my take on A&A. BTW, I checked out Ticketmaster and am glad I got my tickets through Unedited. i didn't expect it to be so hard to find tickets through Ticketmaster. I started checked right when they went on sale and I was getting much farther seats. I could not find a single floor seat. Where the heck did those go?! It also frustrated me that Jewel's show did not show up on Ticketmaster, but it did show up when I searched for Rob Thomas.
