Jewel's voice used to be very pure and melodic, but now it just says to me "Sure I"m over 30, but can't you see how adorable I still am?" I've only listened to a few songs off the new album, but each of these songs has that babyish voice. Am I the ONLY one that has noticed it? I've been listening to Jewel since her debut, and recently acquired tons of her rare tracks and live recordings, many of which are very early, and she's always sounded "cute" to me. It's one of the reasons I like her in the first place. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:40:57 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] re: Just Me? I'm wondering if you just listened to the clips or the full album, since I think the clips aren't very good sources of judgement. I saw this album as Jewel departure from that damn chipmunk-esque thing, lol, which I thought brought down This Way (although its a favorite) and 0304. There are a few moments, but overall her voice is in top form in the studio, finally, as all the vocals are single, live cuts. - -- Jenni said: Am I the only one that notices her amazingly annoying "cute" voice that has appeared on almost everything lately? I love it. Also, I think saying "if you're a true fan, you wouldn't say that," is complete bullshit. You're a fan because you like the music, not because you worship the person and the ground they walk on. I hope that people remember this during the upcoming flames/arguments. Mark ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:52:32 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] YWMFM vs. A&A I seem to be on a long-overdue posting spree this evening! For those of you who don't know, Jewel has been touting "Again and Again" as "You Were Meant for Me: Part 2." Its her take on the same idea, only more grown up and less naive. Stripped down in its acoustic form, especially in recent radio performances, this is starting to really show through. The guitar playing, her vocal stylings, and the song format all reflect You Were Meant For Me to a pretty far extent. I'm starting to think if she had her time back, she would have produced it differently. Shes pushing this idea now more than ever, but the striking similiarities are shrowded under the pop-radio production of the album version. Just a random thought. I was wondering what you guys think? (and who is going to chicago) [Hersheys98@a] Hey just wanted to let you know that the password is/was heartbreak, but it's completely worthless. I already had tickets but out of curiosity I was on when the presale started.. the best seats I could locate were like section 204 row H, and at the same time jewel unedited still had their presale going on.. they had section 203 (center section in the 200s) and row B... I will be online when the tickets go onsale to the general public tomorrow, I expect they would have at least a few pairs of tickets in the lowers... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 16:37:29 -0700 From: "E N" Subject: [EDA] SJC: rise in ticket prices Man oh man ... After buying my Jewel tickets I looked around tickemaster just for fun. Ticket prices for concerts are so expensive now! What's up with that? I looked up Kelly Clarkson's concert at Irvine Meadows / Verizon Amphitheter in CA and for middle tier it was $75. That is a lot. The seats weren't bad, but they were certainly not worth $75 to me. I guess I'm not a big enough fan. I remember my first Jewel ticket was $28 or so. What a steal. Haha. And you thought Ticketmaster was a killer iwth their service charges, Unedited charged $9 for service fees and then $9 for shipping. ack! Sorry, just the poor grad student venting. I basically paid for my tickets with loan money. LOL ... it's not gonna be pretty when I have to pay essentially 4 times that amount in the long run ;-) Elizabeth P.S. I still think the album is a bit schizo and all over the place. In "Words Get In the Way" I hear that "cutesy" voice someone was talking about. I feel like she's straining so much in that song to sing so high at that pitch. And I know she has range and she sings those arias of hers very well. But I can't really stand her in that song for some reason. But I like the track before it - "Only One Too" Haha ... maybe I'm the schizo one ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 08:34:32 +0430 From: Santee Subject: [EDA] Positive Energy is just flowing here! ;-) What's woth all the negativity? This has been and always will be, a list of *Everyday Angels*. Negative energy shall not be tolerated. Oops, just a little bit to much totalitarianism there. ;-) Ok, this coming from someone who has not heard the new album, as well as not having heard any of her more recent public appearances. But of all the albums that she has put out, I have enjoyed them all. Each has a different flavor, and each has been enjoyed in different ways. Why should we expect Jewel, among every other artist to get stuck into one genre of music. It is her voice and songwriting ability that I have enjoyed. And that for m is unlikely to change. I tended to enjoy the lesser known, or non singles that came out. Big example, America from 0304. Or What Simple is True from Spirit. She is an inspiring artist no matter what she does, because of who she is. Flames directed at fellow list members should not happen. That is an indication of someone who is living with a closed mind. Someone not willing to allow another to have their own opinion. So please, lets quit with the personal attacks, and get back to what we are here for. To be of service and help others who are less fortunate. - -- All's Fair in Love and War CPT Dan ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #107 ****************************
