Like why the video was redone, though I'm so glad it was. Or, why that version of song can be done and if that version can be found on any Jewel release or not. I like the version but nothing beats the video with Poltz. Speaking of Poltz, and this is probably very rude so excuse my question, but didn't he and Jewel date? What happened? In 8th grade I used to go around singing (to the tune of YWMFM) "Jewel was meant for Steve and Ryan was meant for me." haha! Apparently I was wrong on both front's. Jewel seems very happy with Ty and well, Ryan turned out to be gay. haha. See ya EDAs! ~*~*~ The Faithful Angel ~*~*~ - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail goes everywhere you do. OK, I just listened to the entire 1000 Miles Away track from the new CD on headphones. Having heard it now, I can say Jewel more than "barely touched it". Vocally is pretty much the same as the best version I have in my collection (the JewelStock version), but there IS more than a little production to it. (still, you wouldn't know it from the sound-clip on Jeweljk.com) 1000 Miles Away starts out with just Jewel singing and her playing the guitar (it IS Jewel playing it). Some subtle piano play kicks in, and picks up more and more as the song progresses, but piano never really dominates, Jewel's voice does that in this track. A minute and a half in some acoustic bass kicks in (I didn't know it was acoustic bass, I was told it is), and the first of a few percussion segments, which sounds like only cymbals but I'm no expert on them...sounds like two different kinds of cymbals to me...could be drums at time, it was hard to tell. Some synthesizer kicks in in the last third of it along with the piano and more cymbals, and it ends with her vocals and more synth. Overall it's not my favorite version (I only have 4 versions now as it is), but it's pretty true *vocally* to what we've heard acoustically, and I can see where some who dislike "production" at all will call it over-produced in the last two-thirds of it...and to be honest, at least on headphones it was a bit distracting at times (the non-guitar instrumentation). I am glad however it's different than what I've heard before. Why would I want to hear the exact same version I already have decent recordings of? Where's the excitement in that? I hope people don't judge this or ANY album based upon a few 20 second sound clips and instead give the entire CD at least a couple of listens. Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2006 22:12:15 -0400 From: Kiwi Subject: [EDA] I love these fights!! This is my favorite time, when a new album comes out and the list gets all heated up over production and lyrics, whether Miss J is a sellout or not. It sure beats those times where we go a week with just one or two comments! I say, bring on the comments, positive, negative and anything in between...it sure makes for interesting procrastination material. My take on the album - I actually got my copy a few weeks ago, at first I didn't like it at all, it kind of meshed together with no real exciting or moving moments. It reminded me of the bad parts of Spirit and 0304. Over time it has grown on me though, it does warrant a second listen. I think part of the problem people may have is that most of these songs are old and circulating through angelfood. We have heard them a lot over the last few years and have gotten used to how they sound a certain way so the initial listen is somewhat jarring. My take - Again and Again - Ok, poppy, radio friendly, not too groundbreaking Alice - Hated it at first, I really prefered the acoustic version, I think this song will do well on the radio Good Day - I really like this song, I can see this one being a big hit, it really shows her personality, I loved the Yahoo acoustic version too Satellite - I always thought the old version was kind of drippy and boring, I really like this pepped up take on the song, i can see this getting reproduced and being popular in clubs or "singles bars" ;) Fragile Heart - I really can't understand why she released this again, the lyrics aren't that strong, I don't see much of a difference between the 0304 version and this one. Stephenville - Someone else said it too, I don't like that she says 31 instead of 25, it doesn't flow as well or fit with the theme of the song....I like the little bell sound when she says, "i'll sell you neat ideas..." it gives it an old time door to door salesman feel :) I wish she went acoustic with this one though 1,000 Miles Away - i think this is the strongest song, her voice and personality are showcased well The other songs kind of blend together for me, nothing too memorable Soooo...basically, I don't love the song choices and the production is just ok for me, but I felt the same way about Spirit and that album did really well. I'm not a fan of her albums though (except for This Way) I much prefer the live stuff... Happy Listening!!! Anyway I was at a meeting when the tickets went on sale for the Chicago show and didn't get back until about an hour and 15 minutes after they had been on sale. I ended up with section 103, row Q (I think it was Q.. whatever is 17th row)... I also got seats near the middle of section 103. In years past, I have always gotten incredible tickets from unedited.. I can't remember the last time I sat further back than 3rd row.. usually not center, but I've had front row tickets many many times. So anyway, I was just wondering if anyone that used unedited got decent seats this year, especially for the chicago show. I'm definately going to try to get some seats when they go on sale-public and I'll be looking for better seats in general.. but I'm not going to complain :) Also if anyone wants to get together prior to the chicago show I imagine that Cassie and I will make a weekend out of it so we could do late lunch/dinner with a group... ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #105 ****************************
