OH my God I feel old. I am 25 today and I read this. I remember so much from 10 years ago...where did the time go? It really will be no time before everything you say comes true and I'll be gazing at early wrinkles in the mirror listening to Jewel's POY while kids run around my feet driving me nuts as I get called 'uncool' by my niece who'll be 13 then. I am yet to hear it at all here (ireland) but I don't expect to. She isn't widely known here and really the only songs you'll hear on the radio here of Jewel is YWMFM, Hands or WWSYS. I remember hearing Intuition once! Otherwise, Jewel just hasn't penetrated the Irish market enough to really get airplay. Pity. The ironic thing is, despite this, she has sold out every concert she has played here in record time. The fans are here, the radio stations just don't get it. - --- Ben Simpelo wrote: > Again and Again is now getting airplay on XM > Satellite > Radio. Well, I recommend checking out a very refreshing songwriter whose lyrics are fantastic. No cheese, not overly sentimental, but with backbone, wit, and all the ingredients of a good song. Also, they are very different and he packs in great musicians, including Norah Jones singing backup on a few tones. Check out http://www.RichardJulianMusic.com He's awesome! Im only 23, but somehow I feel the pain too. I dont understand most popular music today, and have find myself saying THOSE DAMN KIDS on numerous occasions. Not that liking Jewel was ever a particularly cool thing for me (since my idiot friends never liked that stuff), but the thought of her on an oldies station scares me. It scares me enough when I turn on the Retro channel here in Canada and have to sit through Sarah Mclachlan's stuff from Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, and you guessed it...anything from POY. I mean they do play early 90's stuff, but how is Jewel retro? And where did all the cool 90's rock bands go, along with the amazing wealth of singer-songwriters that came out around Jewel (At least Fiona Apple is still out there with a wicked new albulm, even though Sarah's last one was way too short and way too slow. Even Tori Amos' has gone all uber soft rock on me! Not to say her last albulm wasn't good, I just miss that crazy fire Tori used to have). I dont know, I guess it's just a part of growing up that you look back on the earlier years and at music you used to listen to and pine for that time period. Is it the music your pining for, or that time of so-called innocene? I donno, but I just feel your pain, and the thought of where music and popular culture will be in 10 years scares the shit outta me anyways. Okay rant done..
