I just cask cause she says Ive never played this one live before, but I was there 2 years ago when she played it at Massey Hall In Toronto. In fact, I have the CD recording of it live, but it's called something else (Would have to dig out the cd to check..I believe she says at the begginging "UMM this one is called CHOOSE ME...I guess..."). Just wondering, since the Toronto version is also much better sung by Jewel, and is definetly longer and not so rushed. Just got home and had a stiff drink. I was scared that badly.... I was out and driving home from Syracuse, trying to find on local radio one of the national Saturday Night Oldies shows. It's been a Saturday night tradition of mine for the better part of two decades, listening to the national shows playing the best of the 50s and 60s, and then , as the years rolled by, (depressingly) slipping into music from the 70s. A caller called in requesting an early Madonna song....1986's "Crazy For You"...on the OLDIES show. I wanted to slit my wrists. Madonna? Oldies? Did I pass through a time warp on Route 81 South and was suddenly in the year 2016? He played it. He freaking played it. That got me thinking. Ten years ago right now, Jewel's first release, "Who Will Save Your Soul?" was just starting to get some airplay here and there, finally gaining hit-status in the middle of 1996, the same time that the forefathers (and forepersons?) of this list gathered in Bearsville for JewelStock. The Madonna oldie played tonight was from 1986. That means that in ten years, Jewel, will be getting airplay on the oldies radio (satellite?) shows. My lord, in ten years the Olsen twins will be playing mothers in television and movies. In ten years it will probably happen the same night, I'll be listening in my hybrid/solar-powered self-rocking chair at the Bearsville National Retirement Village when someone willl call "Solid Gold Saturday Night" on their wristwatch phone (probably a 20 year EDA vet) and request "Who WIll Save Your Soul", while I also have the holograph-vision turned on and at the same time see a made-for-holographvision film starring the Olson twins in a twins-version remake of "Look Who's Talking". Then I'll slit my wrists. Jewel is ten years from oldies play....the horror...the horror.... Mike "the oldie" ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #43 ***************************
