Dennis said it right! It don't matter who or what you support, just so long as whne you do state your opinion, you must expect a response that is different from yours. Otherwise, after awhile, this list and anyone elses becomes stale. Differences of opinion are what makes the world go round. Otherwise, we would just have one leader and a bunch of yes men. It would most likely be a much less violent world, but in the end, we would not have the freedom to make our own choices. I would much rather have that freedom rather than have it thrust upon me. Dennis Harris, as always, you are the hero of many, to bad you downplay your leadership qualities and want to be amongst us baser humans. ;-) - -- All's Fair in Love and War Dan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2006 09:04:41 -0500 From: Kiwi Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Cover of the Rolling Stone! How is blindly saying "i love it!!!" less ignorant than saying its trash? If I don't like the song I have to dissect why exactly I don't like it, but if I like it I can just say so? Either way, I think the more interesting posts are the ones that detail the positives and/or negatives of the songs, I usually don't read the posts that start out "ohmigod, it's the greatest song ever!!!" because they rarely make for engaging, original reads. On a side note, please don't write "we" in posts, as if you are speaking for the list. As this thread has just proven everyone here has a very different opinion on not only jewel's music, but how to critique it as well and I'm sure a myriad of other topics as well. I don't think anyone here can speak for the whole list on any subject! When was the last time they gave our Jewel some love? I think 3.5 stars was the rating for 0304?" I have to throw in how disheartened I am by the "journalism" in Rolling Stone. I don't know much about the magazine's history but it seems pretty legendary, and it's quite a shame that (IMO) they've allowed that status to languish. I particulary spite their "National Affairs" column. I usually ignore the magazine all together (I bought one of those 10 year subscriptions on eBay for like $8) because of this section. Without failure, everytime I pick it up I'm shocked yet again by the over-liberal bias regardless of what political topic they are covering. There's right bias and left bias everywhere in the media, I'm just saying is disheartening that this particular music magazine can't either keep it's mouth out of the fight or write more compelling and factually-supportable articles. The last piece was over the President's new energy policy, which has substantial flaws, but they did such a horrible job covering it that I actually made the effort to send off a lettor to the editor cancelling my subscription. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V11 #40 ***************************
