I, sadly, have never heard the original version of Alice in Wonderland. Does anyone have a copy or know where I could hear one? Also, is there a version of Again and Again available to hear? I'm so excited for this album :) Ashley _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. I took the song as saying goodbye to the illusion of it all -- to the illusion she had of what people thought of her, the illusion of fame and what it meant, the media, the fast-track lifestyle, the illusion of the loyalty of fans (no matter what she put out), etc., and that she wants a more normal, reality-based life. Wonderland wasn't real. It was an illusion -- and so was the yellow brick road. That's how I took this song. But I see where people are thinking it's like a goodbye to this fantasy wonderland life she has that she's sick of and leaving for good. I don't know. I just can't believe she'd say screw it and walk away. I hope not -- and I really don't think so. She's always said that she wanted to do this when she was 80. If that is what the song is referring to, I think Chrissy is right. Goodbye Hollywood!! Also, I think at the end of the song when she talks about having found what was missing from her life, I think she's referring to balance, a sense of reality about her life and a sense of who she is -- and most of all self-love. I think we may not see or hear from her as often, but I doubt she'll just up and walk away. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 23:17:01 -0800 From: "Allison Crowe Music Mgmt" Subject: Re: [EDA] Goodbye Alice in Wonderland Thanks so much, Kiera, for pointing us to that link! Very interesting analyses Barry. I'm reminded of the EDA list project way-back-when, to come up with ideas for Jewel's "Down So Long" video. That was a lot of fun. And, indeed, this new version of GAIW evokes Spirit-era sounds - to my ears (moreso than Piece of You, which remains my fave album of the Artist Formerly Known as Swiss Miss). Looking forward very much to hearing the new album. Jewel's made quite a journey in music and the music biz over the past ten years. Sounds like, in ways, she's coming full circle. Of course, you don't unlearn... but, hey, innocence isn't really lost, it just needs to be maintained, right! Take care, Barry Howarth It does seem that she is saying Goodbye in her video. I just do not see her being finished. She may even feel like that's what she want's to do right now, but she is a singer/songwriter down to her soul, I dont see her going anywhere. I love it! Yes, like i read many times, it is different than the other version all of us have heard. But, this reminds me of a mature Jewel. Her style is her own in this video. It isn't rehearsed over and over again losing the emotion and that raw feeling Jewel is known for. Watching this video reminded me of when I saw her in concert during the This Way tour. And now I only wish her album would come out alot sooner. It struck something inside that makes me want to hear and see more of her again. It has been so long since her last album 0304, and my opinion is I think this album is going to be the best one she has made. I can't wait!!
