It's going to take some getting used to as I know that song so well from.... well... you know..... -- alternative sources :) Is this video the actual audio from the new album? She is right, she is so much better live.... and I think also, when she plays off the cuff and kind of wings it on a relatively new and not over-practiced song. Her emotion is more authentic, which is her gift - -- well one of them, anyway!!!! I love the 6-14-04 Humphrey's version which was (I think) the 3rd time it was played live. The reason I say that is cause it was so raw the first 2 times, but by that Humphrey's it was unbelievable, and I think, PERFECT. Then in 2005, it was different again -- and really close to this video. Anyway, what struck me was the change from the original melody -- especially in the chorus, and also the "beat vs. lyric" aspect [don't know what that's called -- which beats she puts certain syllables on -- what is that called????] -- although you could tell that was coming.... She also reversed the lines in the bridge, which I don't think makes as much sense, but maybe I'm just used to the way it was. Although that was already changed in some of the 2004 Instantlives. I kept hoping she'd go back to the first way. Anyway, this is the album we've been waiting for -- so after this post, I'm going to try to refrain from saying much negative. I don't want to get too bitchy about this song or this album, especially after all the 0304 freaking out! That little bit of history makes me feel bad, cause constant scrutiny and nit-picking is not something anyone should have live with all the time, especially about things so personal and "of your inner self" -- even if you are in the public eye. I'm an artist, and I know the feeling I get in the pit of my stomach when someone starts to pick apart a drawing or painting I've done -- especially when I put myself out there and tried something really different, or don't feel the person understands what I was trying to get at in the first place. I actually felt guilty when I heard this song for the first time cause I really felt like she was talking directly to us in it. I heard somewhere it was to the media, but I don't think she's ever had that much invested in how they view her. She's always shown us that we've been foremost in her mind in terms of an audience, and I think our reaction to 0304 opened her eyes to how picky and mean we can be. I'm not going there again. I got used to and learned to love, studio versions of other songs I originally liked better live [LMJLMA is a great example], I'll get used to this -- and probably feel the same way. Sorry! I think the song sounds a bit like "Jesus Loves You" and isn't very original. I appreciate the intimate lyrics, and of course getting to see Jewel, but it was a letdown for me. Guess I was looking for some catchy melody or something. Oh well. Out of lurking mode. I still don't think the tiny image on the Unedited website is the album cover-- its too soon almost- I think its just the "cover" for Alice In Wonderland. Perhaps it was stored on a cd or will used for promotion. Who knows, but that really doesn't look like the album cover to me. The video: Its too bad its just one single shot excluding the end but it is still very personal and her expressions are very moving. I agree with others who have mentioned the chilling yet knowing look she gives when she sings "I thought you had to love me/ but you did not." I guess this was just something quickly put together to give us at least something, since it was done in the middle of a photoshoot, after all. Jewel looks absolutely amazing, more than ever. I was expecting this song to come out as something very solemn or serious and melancholy, as it often does during live shows. However, they seemed to have given it a slight optimistic-edge, as if she has learned and moved on, looking forward to the future. It definately doesn't seem like a notice of retirement or anything like that. I read on the EDA list that someone thought it was cheezy or at least a little overdone. I however LOVE the production, since I was getting a little tired of the acoustic version after hearing it a million different times. Her voice in this studio version finally sounds more like it does live, not high and poppy like the last few albums have done. Overall, its very much my style. For me, there was no getting used to this release-- I loved this from the start. We should be very pleased-- this is the best free gift Jewel has ever given her fans, since it will be available to all on Monday. A serious effort was made to give us fans all a glance at her new album. I love it and can't wait for the new album! The blonde songstress made a personal home movie of the title track that will be available on her fan club website on January 25. It will be made available to the general public on her main site five days later, and then to the rest of the internet world on February 6. The mini-film was shot spontaneously on Jewel's Texas ranch during a shoot with photographer Kurt Markus and is said to reflect the song's autobiographical storyline. Jewel's sixth album, and first in three years, was produced by the artist and Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls). It's said to mark a return from the polished pop sound of 2003's 0304 back to the more introspective days of her Pieces Of You debut. "It is the story of my life - from the extreme solitude of Alaska to my first trip to Hollywood. from my rise to fame to the cliche crisis of betrayals by those closest and most dearly trusted," says Jewel, who has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. "This is the most autobiographical album I have made since Pieces Of You, and I spent a lot of time sequencing it, so that each song sets up the next, like a novel with a beginning, a middle and an end." "Again And Again," the first single from the 13-song album, should be released to radio at the end of February. - -Phil Villeneuve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jan 2006 16:52:32 -0800 (PST) From: Me Subject: [EDA] EDA questions Was someone trying to save the video or am I just imagining things?
