Same ol' stories, same ol' audience requests, and a yodel to end the show. Yawn. I'm afraid she can't get any more predictable. I think it's time for a back up band or at least someone on stage w/a keyboard or electric guitar to add a little variety to a very, very tired set list. Jewel's fans have so much passion, they deserve more. There was a time when I thought it would be great to see Jewel on back to back nights. Now, I suppose the only reason anyone would want to see her more than once on a tour is perhaps to completely memorize her stories of the Federali, social anxiety or the one about getting her in the "chair" so they can get invited on stage and tell the story themselves while Jewel drinks from her cup of Chamomile tea (or is it now some Starbucks blend). New Jewel, old Jewel, I love both. But I don't think she's fooling fans that have seen a few shows by pretending to be spontaneous by taking "requests" from the audience (with the obligatory Freebird offering), strumming a few warm up chords, and then magically singing something rare or unusual like Deep Water or the Cold Song (the best song she ever wrote "which happens to be a polka"). Please, somebody wake me when Jewel does something refreshing...I know she has it in her. Stephenville, Texas must be a pretty bor-ing place. Tired of spam? Yahoo! Joe opened and, for some stupid reason, I've never heard him before. Well, he was awesome! I bought his CD and fully intend to see him whenever he comes into tow. He was fantastic. He had quite a following as many people in the audience seemed to really know his music. Jewel came on wearing a cute white top and a jean skirt and cowboy boots. Her hair was pulled back. I must say she looked much more like her old self, thank god she is growing out those horrible bangs! I didn't get a set list but it was pretty much your standard Jewel show. She asked for requests, people screamed so you couldn't understand anything. I heard all the same stories she always tells. It was very predictable. However, for my friend who went with me it was wonderful! She had never seen Jewel before so she loved every story. The real treat of the night was Steve Poltz! He was doing a show in town the next day, so he stopped by. He came out and they sang a song together that they wrote about ghosts or something? It was cute. Then she left the stage and he did a song of his own. When he was done she came back and they told the drug bust story together. So it was much better than normal! His parts of the story were completely original, she interrupted every so often with her usual lines. Afterwards of course they played YWMFM together. She finished the show with that beautiful song that sounds like it may be Latin. I don't know the name off the top of my head. Then she did Chime Bells and left. It was an awesome show, as her voice was dead on all night! I really think her voice has gotten better over the years. She needs some new stories, but I'll gladly sit through them to hear that voice. It was still worth every penny. :) Mi Rinda ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2005 12:48:24 -0400 From: strummin2jewel@aol.com Subject: [EDA] "Big Blue" guitar I know that this is a custom guitar, but does anybody know what company she went through? Steve's parts were the same as he tells at his own shows, though he never tells the story the same way twice. Seeing them tell it together was nice. I've seen Jewel 12 times now, and Polio roughly 50 times, but it'd been over 6 years since I saw them together. Good times! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V10 #179 ****************************
