[Harrisbros@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 12 Dec 2004 20:53:15 EST From: GSBrumley@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Project Warmth Cincinnati is a SUCCESS! Hello everyone! I just got back from the FIRST EVER Project Warmth in Cincinnati, OH. The Statistics: We collected 37 coats/jackets, 64 pairs of pants, 72 sweaters/long sleeve shirts, 22 pairs of socks, 17 blankets, over 50 baby/kid clothing items, over 100 other clothing items (short sleeve stuff, shorts, etc for layering), and *hoping for better on this one* 2 pairs of gloves. We raised $271.00 in the raffles and split-the-pot. Oh, and I auctioned off an autographed EDA shirt...autographed by Jewel, of course. It went for $30. A bit disapointed, and a bit hard to let go of, but my Dad's girlfriend Jackie won it, so I can still see it LoL We also collected 2 trash bags full of toys, and all our leftover raffle items are being donated also, including another bag full of toys and games. We're taking those to St. Joseph's Orphanage. The turnout wasn't that huge, but next year we hope for way more planning and advertising. Alas, no current EDAs showed up, but I know there were a lot of Everyday Angels there who stood out in the cold and took money from the raffles, sorted the items and folded them, dished out soups and chilli in our "soup kitchen." We did the entire event outdoors, the temp was in the 40s with wind gusts up to 20 MPH! It was cold! But I think that just made the benefit even more realistic, brought to mind how cold it is and how much this stuff would help others. A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO DEE, who let us use his bar/grill to have the event, and donated generous amounts of merchandise and money. Our volunteers ranged from age 5 to 60+ Thanks to all who came out, and I hope the Canada benefit tonight is successful as well! Wanna know why the Jewel list has felt so, well, SHALLOW lately? We forgot what being an EDA meant for so many years. We forgot meeting a stranger and making a friend. We forgot feeling at home, where ever we found ourselves. We forgot family (minus the similar last names)... That's changing recently, with all the wonderful folks getting together, and sharing BEING with each other! Adrian and his silver voiced angel Allison Crowe promoted the EDA spirit Friday night in Canada, with her second EveryDay Angels Foundation (EDAF) "Project Warmth" show in as many months. Gina promoted it in Ohio this weekend with her Project Warmth event. Erin and her church promoted it last weekend on Cape Cod. A local arts center and the EDAF promoted it at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe on November 13th, where six bands donated their time and talent to a benefit for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. On October 23rd (national Make A Difference Day), Chris in Iowa brought together 650 music lovers to rally around the cold and homeless, just hours before Eve Selis and friends met in a church in Encinitas, CA to bring attention -- and badly needed blankets and coats -- to the plight of the homeless in southern California... to an intimate gathering of 300 or so EDAs. THAT is what this list became -- and lived -- during its glory years. The good news is that it's not gone, it just resurfaces when we realize that the most meaningful influence Jewel ever had on us was to make us realize how special WE were. Larry says we need to think about what we've done for Jewel lately. I think we need to think about what we have done for each other lately. I get the feeling that we're lonely, maybe lost or afriad, and we miss each other! (Not to worry, Jewel's part of the group) Hugs from the "fringe" Harris clan to each and every one of you. Be the best you can be, and stay true to your nature! (Just determine what it is first.) Dennis Harris. Trust me (tm) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V9 #331 ***************************
