This is a new stage and I think she was one of the first performers to do a show there. Let me tell you, I was not at all impressed with the venue or how things were ran. I understand that it's a new thing, but come one really. (For about a half an hour no one who worked there knew where row K was... turns out that there was no row I) When I sent my Fiance to buy tickets for me at THEIR box office, no one could really say where the tickets where, but that they were 7th row. I was very disappointed to find out that they were in the grand stands on the sides on the stage. And that they were selling them as the "best available" versus the bleacher seats on the floor in front of the stage. But, whatever. At least no one's head was in the way, even if it was a side view. It was a nice night out and the stage is outside in the middle of downtown right on lake mich igan, so it was pretty. But there just seemed to be too many people there for me, people that weren't "real" fans, but just wanted to hear YWMFM, you know? But Jewel charmed them all anyway. Is it just me or does her voice sound even more beautiful lately?? She had someone different opening for her, Joe wasn't there. Which was the hugest disapointment to my fiance, who's become like the number one joe fan. I swear all he does is play that cd. Which is totally cool by me. And it's great that it makes him excited to come along to a concert with me. lol This chick was pretty cool, she's very jazzy, the newspaper compared her to Billie Holiday. She played cool stuff like Bessie Smith and even a Dylan song. She has a great voice. Her name is Madeleine Peyroux. The paper said she's from Georgia, but that's all I know. Songs Jewel played included: Near you always, passing time, carnivore... Uh, I'm too lazy to listen to the cd again to tell you what else. Carnivore was my favorite. It was a pretty standard set list. She was wearing some kind of a white shirt and jeans. I was too far away to tell you more outfit details. HEY, I was wondering, Does anyone else agree with me that Jewel herself could have picked out the pre-concert music that plays over the loudsystem? Songs like "from a distance" and "fast car" from tracy chapman just seemed like she picked them herself to me. or else someone who knows her tastes. even mc hammer at the end of the show... i just think she'd think that's be funny to play. GREEN BAY I have to say this show was way awesome. I haven't been so happy at a jewel show probably since my first one, and this one marked my ninth i believe. This time I had third row tickets, and that was exciting. A show is always better when you can be up close. My fiance and I had brought our copy of joe firstman's wives tales cd to the show so he could sign it for us. But as we arrived to the show early, and were anxiously waiting in our seats, I thought out loud, "I want joe". and sure enough out he walks from behind the backstage curtain RIGHT on freaking cue. and we followed him out into the lobby and asked him if he'd sign our cd. he was very impressed that we had it, as it is a rare cd. so that was really cool. Later, When Joe played his set I yelled to him to play the waltz, and he said that he would. But it was funny, because right before that, he went and sat on the piano, and said, how earlier a girl and her boyfriend came up to him asking him to sign his rare cd, and he even said my name and everything... and then he played the first song on the cd for us, say ing, "this is for you guys." and then next he played the watlz request, and asked the name of the person who requested it, and I yelled to him that it was me again, and he made a joke of it, saying that he's only got one damn fan in this place. =) So that was awesome. It was our third Joe show, we saw him open for jewel in Rockford in March, and a few months after that he was touring solo and came to Madison Wi, and i convinced my fiance to go, even though it was a weeknight. It was awesome. One of the best shows I've been to, so if you like joe, get the chance to see him solo if you can! That night in madison, i asked joe if he would play everything reminds me of you, and he was surprised that I knew it. He did comment on how cool Jewel was, and that she's awesome person to tour with. He also said that she's hot. =) but anyways back to green bay (i guess i'm making up for a lack of posts that i should have done ear lier, and rolling them all into one! =) Jewel looked very pretty when she came out wearing a white knee length dress with a red floral print. she had on silver hoop earrings that that a rhinestone/diamnond? trim, and a necklace with a matching rhinestone hoop for the charm. She opened with Near you always, and then asked for requests. I shouted for Nicotine Love. and after listening to requests for a minute decided to do mine. YAY! She didn't think she could remember it, but tried anyways. I have to say she did a damn good job, and didn't mess up the words tooo much. lol She had to get out her lyric book and peak back at it after all the choruses. I was so freaking happy. And totally nervous that she'd mess up and I wouldn't be able to catch her! =) It took me all nine concerts to get her to play that! =) She even pointed me out and called me a sicko for requesting that, and of course, asked me how I knew the song. An d let me tell you i'm so glad. (so if you check out that picture that's in the Green bay review, that's me she's pointing at and calling a sicko. How cool is that!?!) A couple songs later she also went with boy needs a bike, from her own choosing. The last part of the 0304 tour she played that in rockford by request, but the requesters had to give her the words, so it was cool that she chose it on her own. Also somebody requested "Freebird"- is that person an EDA?? how else would they know the joke? It was a totally cool concert. One of the best I've been to in awhile. Thanks for reading if you did so. And if you didn't, that's cool too. Half of the reason I leave such detailed posts is so I can go back and check the list archives for my memories. Kinda like a journal that I share with the rest of the EDAs. I wish that more of you would share too. hugs*~ Mandy PS- I bought both shows on instantlive. I'm soooooo pleased with how those turn out!!! They just sound so awesome, you just can't get that in the studio, you know? I love em. It's so cool that jewel can do that for us. I'm always up for trades if anyone is interested. I love Jewel's sense of humor and possible cognizance that this would be a fun, bouncy tune to hear after an evening of touching but gentle acoustic serenades! I loved my 11th Jewel concert!! Have great a productive days fellow EDAs everywhere. BTW, if there is anyone who is willing to buy an InstantLive CD for me at an upcoming show I WILL make it worth your trouble.
