Baby Steps for June Hello to my International Friends (which basically means everyone living outside of Ontario, Canada!) It's been quite some time since I wrote to everyone. I trust that 2004 has been a good year for all of you thus far. Please forgive me if you receive this email at more than one address; I've completely lost track as to which are valid and which are defunct. Feel free to email me if you wish to verify your contact info or want to be removed from this list. Now, where to begin? Well, I was saddened back in February when a problem with my webhosting company led to the guestbook on my website being completely wiped out. I almost cried; there were such kind comments there. If you'd left an entry previously, please leave another. Or if you hadn't, by all means drop by and say hi. It's always nice to hear from people. I've been writing up a storm for the past nine months and am in the midst of recording my debut album. It's been a rough road though, filled with several unforeseen challenges. The most difficult occurred just two weeks ago, when one of my two producers, the beautiful Edward Hutchison, lost an extended health battle and passed away on May 30th. To say it was devastating to lose him is a gross understatement, as he was not only my producer but my former teacher, a musical mentor and a very dear, special friend. The past two weeks have been excruciating but I am starting to remember how to smile again. I know that his spirit is still very much with me. Eddie was schooled in the blues; I have no doubt that he and Ray Charles are jammin' up a storm. The project I was working on was intended to be a double-album, with Ed producing one disc and another friend the other. After wrestling with what to do with the project, I decided to put Ed's record on hold for awhile. I'm more determined than ever to finish it because he believed so strongly in my music, but it will be quite some time before I can return to it bringing joy rather than sorrow. Listening to what I recorded with him is extremely emotional for me and a bit too much at the moment. In the meantime, I am continuing work on the other record and its release is just a few months away. I'm looking forward to sharing new music with you, especially since some of you have supported me since my really, really old stuff! Next month's update will contain more info. There are two pre-production demos on the Upcoming Album page at my site right now (simple demos I made in my bedroom when I first wrote the tunes), but previews of some actual tracks from the record will be online in July. Until then, everyone be well. It's been lovely getting in touch with all of you again!
