Use MusicMatch. and Run your OUtput sound wire back into the INPUT. Using Musicmatch, set it to Record LINE IN. ANd then play and press Record. This will get past all the protects. But you can not here this unless you have internal speakers or have a spliter to go to your speakers. kev The most personalized portal on the Web! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jun 2004 02:56:14 -0500 From: Theresa Bolger Gubrud Subject: [EDA] Re: Instantlive Recording I don't want to catch any shit for this, but I personally don't think copy/trading these recordings is right. The purpose of Angelfood was to get ahold of songs and shows we wouldn't otherwise be able to hear. And when Jewel was still gaining momentum, it made sense for her to "allow" it. And I think Rob is right -- her view on angelfood has to have changed since the early days. SHE'S changed. As long as ALL the recordings from recorded shows will be available for sale, I don't think they should be traded. I just don't think its right to knowingly trade anything that can be bought legally, even if these shows do copy on the computer. However, if they aren't buyable for those of us who aren't at an Instantlive show, then they are fair game. And I'm still not clear on whether or not these shows are going to be buyable through the internet for those of us that didn't go to the show. Anyone know the answer to that FOR SURE? It looks like that MAY be the case, but they don't have any for sale under past shows on the website that I could find -- you get directed to the band's website, so it looks like it may be up to the artist. And under frequently asked questions it says 4. How do I buy shows that Instant Live has recorded in the past? You will soon be able to purchase CD from our website (which includes band links), visit the band's website, or at a band's show that we have recorded. So it doesn't sound to me like CD's are available to buy if you didn't make it to the show -- at least not now, unless Jewel puts them at her store. Does anyone know the answer to that? Regardless, my thought is this: first of all, if she is going "against" Atlantic -- IOW, had to convince them in ANY way, shape or form that this would be a payoff for them (and perhaps, help "solve" the "bootlegging problem"), then us trading them is wrong. She may be counting on us to prove her right. Secondly, as far as I know, she still donates that 40%, which means we're taking $$ out of her charitable organizations, too. Third, because I believe her view on Angelfood HAS probably changed, I think this is her solution to giving us what we want, with better quality -- for a mere $15. And I think it kind of says to us, "enough bootlegging -- I'm giving you what you want, so respect me on this." I don't think that's a lot to ask. And fourth, as I said above, all the way around -- if you can buy it, you shouldn't copy and trade it. Period. And I know I'm going to catch hell. I hope someone who is going will buy extra copies to be reimbursed for. Unfortunately, I am going out of town for 2 weeks tomorrow, so I won't even get a response from anyone who may be able to do this. But, I hope someone does and saves a copy for me. Anyone know the answer to that FOR SURE? ***************************************************************** I haven't seen anything about it. Most artists that I have seen use the service eventually make the recordings available - sometimes as a complete tour box set. But usually this is well after the tour ended to not interfere with ticket sales. I also concur with any organized treeing or sharing of these shows. It is an entirely different story when an EDA using their equipment and production makes a copy of the show for sharing and taking a prepared product and sharing it. However, I worry that the J-team will have to be extremely strict on EDA sharing of their own recordings of the same show. I don't understand if Phish can find a way to make a ton of money at this (allowing both commerical and private recordings of their shows) why do other artists struggle with it so much. Either you have a viable product that people will pay for or your don't. And ... as a side note ... anything is copyable. Just because you can't slap the disc in your computer and have it automatically rip the tracks doesn't mean it can't easily be done. A CD player and Microsofts Analog Recorder is all it takes. It's how I've put tape-based angelfood on to my computer. == Rob == "All the perfect drugs and superheroes wouldn't be enough to bring me up to zero," Aimee Mann ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Jun 2004 10:47:07 -0400 From: Dave0828@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Re: Instantlive Recording If you go to their website you can see that they already have three future Jewel shows listed, although they don't have them for sale. Those that do attend will have the chance to buy a show. One caveat - when The Who began doing this they would list about ten shows at a time for sale. As an 11th became available it would knock the first one off, etc. So, if you see a show that you want, I wouldn't generally wait very long - unless it's announced that this procedure will be different. But, for now all you can go on is past experiences of people that have bought these sorts of recordings.
