Subject: [EDA] boo hiss! atlantic suck... That sucks that Atlantic nixed the idea for selling copies of the live shows..... oh well. She'll probably do it in the future. I guess it depends on whether she signs with an independant or a major label (were those some of the words she used Cilla?)... or if she continues with Atlantic. It sounds like she's not altogether pleased about what's happened with Atlantic. I'm still sort of hoping Ron Shapiro gets hired somewhere and she goes with him. I'm looking forward to the new album though! Very exciting! (tix prices) OK...I havent seen Jewel in concert since the February 1997 show at the Orpheum in Boston. I believe the ticket prices then were 18 bucks. Since then she had some #1 songs etc and her careeer took off, especially that year of 1997. So I was expecting perhaps triple the prices.... This morning I considered going to the early May Turning Stone Casino shows (both of the shows) as they are 90 minutes away and on a Saturday to boot, but was mortified when I saw the tix were $70, $75 and $85. Looking at the seating chart its a small place, so that may account for the prices, but my question is are many other venues on this tour charging that much, or is this the highest one? Not going to the shows for those prices, Mike ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 2004 10:52:19 -0400 From: "James McGarry" Subject: Re: [EDA] Am I out of touch? Its not just that venue or this tour. Mainly its a decrease in competition in who controls the venue bookings/production/promotion. $70-85 seems at least _somewhat_ within reason, whereas three figure pricing just doesn't (I mean as long as that gets you a decent seat with a decent view -- some people are paying that for obstructed, nosebleed seats.). http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/Entertainment/2020_concertgreed030314.html James. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 2004 16:06:32 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: Re: [EDA] Everything Breaks on new album! (tix prices) I just want to say that Jewel could be playing much larger venues than she is if tickets for her shows were cheaper. What's wrong with selling tickets for $20 if 8,000 people are going to come for those prices, instead of charging $60-80 for smaller venues which aren't selling out. I know for a fact that lower ticket prices would bring in bigger crowds, especially since she isn't paying dancers and such. - ----- Original Message ----- From: James McGarry Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 9:56 AM To: jewel@smoe.org Subject: Re: [EDA] Am I out of touch? Looking at the seating chart its a small place, so that may account for the prices, but my question is are many other venues on this tour charging that much, or is this the highest one? I've noticed that the casino prices tend to be higher. I know it is cheaper at the NJ State Theater than it is for AC show for us. We paid $70 each for 11th row (with fees). That is in line with similar high level musical acts, but not of Jewel's current level of diminished popularity. It probably explains why she hasn't come close to selling out the 1,800-seat venue yet. I know people will blame it all on the venue and that might be true for the casinos, but I've seen better and more popular acts cheaper at the same theater. In the case of our venue most acts have a promoter rent the theater and then sell the tickets for what they can. I guess my point is I blame the new j-team for the high prices. Comparatively, we bought tickets for Prince at MSG in the upper decks for $50 each. I know Jewel has had some hits, but come on she's no where near a draw to command these kinds of prices. I mean when I can see Ani Difranco or the Indigo Girls locally for under $35 it makes it tough to justify $70+ for Jewel. == Rob == p.s. I've also noticed that superstar classic acts that draw from mine to Mike's age demographic (like Rod Stewart, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) are all in the $100+ range. So I think sometimes the acts judge their prices by the relative disposable income of their fan base, say as opposed to DMB who is in the $35 - $50 range. (tix prices) > I guess my point is I blame the new > j-team for the high prices. I don't. I know back on her This Way tour, before the "new j-team", I paid $200 (Canadian) for 2 tickets to see her... which is insane, because usually our ticket prices (as many things) are the same as yours, just Canadian funds... It's the same for merch. It's insane that Jewel wanted $8 for a STICKER at her This Way concert here, and that was the cheapest thing they offered... and recently at a Deftones concert, they wanted $40 for a t-shirt...yeah right, I barely paid more than that much for the ticket! I think it's just a matter of greed, and not necessarily the artists either... they probably have no clue what the merchandise at their concert is priced at. I think they just want to squeeze whatever they can out of you & still get away with it. As long as people are still paying those prices, they'll keep them up that high, or raise them until people stop buying them. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 2004 18:15:03 -0800 From: "Emily Cox" Subject: [EDA] Concert Type?
