[shawn e williams Subject: [EDA] re: live concert cds hey there Yeah I read that article and I read it as saying that the next CD won't be a live record cause the label had a problem with it... not that the live cd thing won't go ahead. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Atlantic had a problem with it. Although I agree with Mike I'd be surprised if she'd announce it without asking first.... but we haven't heard anything else about it, so maybe it has been called off. Well, I'm looking for some older versions of Does Anyone Believe In Love, Rosy and Mick and Long Slow Slide. By older versions I mean those that first surfaced. I used to have an absolutely gorgeous/perfect version of Does Anyone Believe In Love, from, I don't know, 2000 maybe, that I lost and now I'm desperate!!! The same goes for the other 2. I would like to have the Humphrey's version of Long Slow Slide, which I'm guessing some of you might have. The Rosy and Mick version I'm looking for is also from 2000/2001. It was the version that everybody had and it was flawless. Ok, if you have any of these you can send it to my email, alright? Thanks a lot, Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 14:02:09 -0400 From: Subject: [EDA] Re: Selling Concert Recordings & Jewel Playing Dulcimer Hello Folks, Got a little story to tell about Jewel & her selling her concerts after her shows. Well, I went to the April 16 show in Biloxi. :) It was quite awesome. After the second song, I believe, she asked what we wanted to hear... I started shouting song after song, my first request being Studies in Love #12... Her response was "mmhmm... mmhmm... I think I'll play something nobody requested" Ok, so after a few more songs, I continued to shout my requests... She said "Studies in Love #12... who said that?" And as soon as she said that, I of course jumped in the air "Me! me!" But, I also knew she was about to bust me for "bootlegging." So yeah, then she said "and how do you know that song? Come on, you can admit it, a little bootlegging going on?" I gestured... "a little bit" Her point being... she then explained that she wants to record her concerts and sell them after the show, but Atlantic records told her no. Actually, right before that she explained how Atlantic was bought by one man. And that the concert the night before and that night were being recorded (and most concerts on this tour) for possible inclusion on a future album. I then asked her if she was gonna do that later on, when she was no longer with Atlantic... Her answer was "It depends on if I go with a free-lance label, or [some other kind of label, can't remember her words]. I don't know, time will tell" She then played Studies in Love #12 for me. =) ::floats on cloud 9:: When it came to the last verse, she strummed the guitar for a bit, then said "shit, I forgot the words" Then I yelled "Five years worth of kisses" She replied "Oh, yes!" and continued the song to a fine ending. :) (The audidence liked that) Then, can you believe this? after it was over, she apologized to me for cursing and not remembering the words. I thanked her for playing it. It was fabulous. Anyways, about the dulcimer... She had it on the table, and for the encore, someone asked her what instrument that was, and then we asked her to play it. I have pictures! For the person asking what that was, it looks like a small/tiny guitar, and you play it on with it laying in your lap... just look it up on google, I'm sure. That's my exciting story! She said what a great idea she thought it was but Atlantic thought it would be detremental to her CD sales. She was in such a great Mood last Friday night. It was def. the best concert i've ever seen from her. She seems really ready to get away from Atlantic and since I asked her the question about the new CD at the concert (which btw was really cool asking Jewel questions) She told us that shes recording all of her concerts and will pick and choose songs to put on the new cd plus she'll go into the studio and record a few..it kinda sounded like "this way" in reverse. I also asked her about the huge ring she's been wearing and she said that she had bought it for herself. She also played Race car driver per my resquest and "Studies in love #12" per Cilla's request. it was a really great night as a whole and i dont know if anyone has mentioned this but shes selling thong underwear that reads on the front "You + Me= LOVE" it was soo freakin funny ok im out P.S. Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 21:15:46 -0300 From: "Fabio" Subject: [EDA] Everything Breaks on new album! Exciting news!!!!!!!!! http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=19624 Jewel has been at work on her fifth album, with plans to release the follow-up to 2003's 0304 next year. The folk-pop singer-songwriter claims she has more than 400 songs to choose from for her sixth album, none of which will resemble her recent dance-oriented material. "It's going to be really lo-fi," she says. The album will feature songs that Jewel has played live for years but never recorded and will likely include "Rosy and Mick" and "Everything Breaks." Work on the untitled set is currently frozen as Jewel in the midst of a spring-summer tour. Her next stop is at the Verizon Music Festival on April 30th, when she'll share the stage of New York City's Carnegie Hall with Missy Elliott and k.d. lang. Twenty-five additional dates have been lined up, currently wrapping July 23rd in Los Angeles. On the itinerary are two nights (June 14th and 15th) in her former hometown of San Diego, where Jewel will play at Humphrey's by the Bay, the venue where she filmed her recently released DVD. Ten tour dates -- May 7th through May 16th -- will feature singer-songwriter Susan Greenbaum as the opening act. Greenbaum was the winner of the Soul City Cafe Music Quest, a program created by Jewel to help give some exposure to unsigned musical talent. "When I was starting out, I won't mention names, but no women would take me out on the road," Jewel says. "Melissa Etheridge is one of the only ones that ever did let women play with her. It was a tough market when I came around. This was a way to try and help some others get heard."
