When my friends heard that Jewel was coming to town, they immediately bought tickets because they knew how much I loved her. Therefore, I did not get a chance to buy the meet and greet package. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and would only love to get the chance to meet her, even if it is a "here, sign this, take a picture and get out." I did not realize that somehow by asking my question to all you avid Jewel fans, that I would make someone angry, and I am very sorry if I offended anyone. Regardless, I am not going to stop asking just because someone has had the opprotunity to follow Jewel everywhere she has gone. I am sure at one point and time, you all were at the same point as I, wanting nothing more that the opprotunity to tell Jewel what a difference she has made in my life. So, I ask again, if anyone can tell me how to meet Jewel w/o having to buy a full meet and greet package, please let me know. Thanks edas!! Dell Yahoo! I think the best part of a backstage pass is the after show hang out. Many artists will sit and relax and hang out with people in their dressing room after the show. I have experienced this with Indigo Girls for an example. I do think that to get those passes though, you have to be "in" with the band or the organization they are supporting. I don't think that they are ever just available for purchase. Anyway, the only hope in getting those is to win them from a radio station or something similar if you're not going through Velvet Rope. Having a backsatge pass is no guaranttee that you'd be able to see Jewel. Aside from the very structured meet and greet, Jewel will always be in her dressing room and gaining admittance to that is not going to happen. Even her walk from her dressing room to the stage is a very guarded affair that allows no time (nor desire) for her to stop and chat to a stranger. I'd much rather have front row seats where there is always the chance of some personal interaction. Ask Michiel how many times he's been on stage. Then ask him how many times he's been backstage. I guess my point is that you could have a backstage pass and the chances of spending time with or even seeing Jewel is miniscule. When you see them on ebay and such, those are just fake badges for souvenirs. Of course, everyone WORKING the concert has a "pass" in the sense that they are allowed to go where they need to, in order to do their JOB. In earlier times, things were run a lot looser, and people could get their friends on the list as "helping" out, so they'd get a backstage pass because they were supposed to be working. These days, there is still some of that, but most of it's long gone. A Backstage pass is typically given out as a prize or promotional item, to very few people. Special arrangements have to be made, often for charitable causes and such, in order to get everyone to go along with it. Some artists do it a lot more than others, of course. Country artists, in general, are expected to be very approachable at all times, hanging around with people at county fairs, inviting people backstage, etc. Many indie artists try to avoid acting like stars, so try to just hang out with fans before or after a show, or they're just regular guys anyway. Those of us who've grabbed beer or whatever with Steve Poltz know this... He's not a huge star like Jewel, however, so he can do this without a crowd of people mobbing him. In the case of Jewel, she seems to really value her privacy these days. They've formalized almost all of her contact with her fans, so buying the "meet and greet" packages seems to be the only option. This may not be as good, but it's available to every fan equally (if they can get the money).
