["kevin maguire" ] [EDA] NJC: leona naess [Ziad Chatila ] [EDA] Worst Jewel show ever! Yarra Valley, Melbourne [Louise Subject: [EDA] Sydney shows Hi Angels, The Hunter Valley show was great but the Sydney shows were just so much better. Jewel was much more relaxed and in really great voice. And the set lists were much more varied and all contained very pleasant surprises: "Per la gloria d'adorarvi" on Wednesday night stunned the audience -- she pulled it off brilliantly; so in the encores she went from opera to pop parody( "Intuition") to yodelling! the woman's a marvel; on Thursday night she opened with "Everything Breaks Sometime", then she sang a new song!! -- at least I haven't heard this one before -- I've called it "If your heart were made of gold" -- and it's a return of sorts to "old style" ballads; then "It's Too Darn Hot" followed by "ABCD All of the Above"!! (I wanted "A Very Big Girl" to come next) -- the whole set had a jazzy flavour to it, which I hope is a portent for the next record; and then she sang "Carnivore" -- I never thought I'd ever hear her do it live (but she didn't do "Emily", "Nicotine Love" or "Louisa and her Blue Guitar"); and on Friday night there was "New Wild West" (a great surprise). But each night "Break Me" just stood out -- one of the most beautiful songs she's ever done. then every song was done just so well, and she put so much into them all. Truly wonderful! And it seems she was in her "blue period" (like Picasso's), as each night she wore a pale blue top (short sleeves, no sleeves, longish short sleeves) and a short blue denim shirt, jeans and a short dark blue skirt. Very much the "simple girl" but also a beautiful, stylish mature woman. The photo shoot story: She did a photo shoot for Vogue, I think she said. Something to do with athletes and the olympics. She couldn't see the connection with her and seemed to think the whole thing was a bit of a wank. She parodied the photographer and the make-up people. The photographer seemed pleased with it, though, and said that it was "very real". Jewel thought it couldn't be more unreal (a major theme of 0304) ! Anyway Steve has already filled you in on this story. She was very funny and chatty every night. Here are the set lists (each set was a bit under 2 hours): Wednesday 18 February 1. Near You Always 2. Passing Time 3. 1000 Miles Away 4. Grey Matter 5. Stephenville Texas - -- "Bob Dylan must be gay" story 6. Sometimes It Be That Way 7. Little Sister 8. Jesus Loves You 9. Deep Water 10. Take care, Barry Howarth PS The 2 Become 1 video was shown on Rage early this morning (Saturday 21st) just as Stand dropped off the top 50. And it was really nice to catch up with some names on this and the OzEDAs list and put faces to them on Friday night. Really nice people. You where meant for me ...with the crowd singing along 2. Little Sister 3. Deep Water ... i love this song so i was wrapped to hear it, she cranked it to its best 4. Hands 5. Life Uncommon 6. Standing Still 7. Beautiful Life 8. Stand 9. Cold Song 10. Foolish Games 11. 2 become 1 ..jewel dedicated to all of us in love..hehe..i think our ty been a good boy 12. Intuition .. love it acoustic 13. Who will save your soul 14. Yodelling encore finale !! in general it was a well behave crowd, but a crowd i think that are more looking for a day out than to see a specific artist highlight was the "Jewel Yarra Valley Idol Search" where she offered for anyone to come sing on stage...2 brave people came on stage and sang their own songs..and did a really great job..jewel declared them both winners..in her role as "Judge Simon" and then when she asked the crowd to stop photos of her when she was singing...not cause she is a diva...cause she said it show her singing double chin..and then she proceeded to do various poses for the crowd to take photos of ! hehe i wish she could have stayed for two or three more songs...but i just didnt want her to leave !! maybe the scars of tasmania are still with her, or she was a bit flat from her hectic schedule i hope jewel comes back sooner than last time...but i got my keychain, necklace and tshirt till then ! cheers mop ps. i think i saw kim..she was meeting with an eda to get a guitar for it to be signed...she seemed really nice and cute...8-) _________________________________________________________________ Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. Yarra Valley, Melbourne Hey angels, I knew as soon as I arrived at the winery yesterday I was going to be disappointed. Signs read that Jewel was only going to be playing for an hour and 15 minutes. But I thought hey if it's anything like Tuesday night's show was she'll be amazing anyway and it won't matter. How wrong was I. She did everything she could to sing as little as possible. After her long Mexico story she turned to the side of the stage where Ty was sitting and joked "that was at least 10 minutes". With the exception of Cold Song and Chime Bells everything else was an album song so she didn't have to stretch her voice. She had a sore throat and I'm sure most of the crowd didn't pick up that some notes caught in her throat and she cracked a couple of times so it's understandable she couldn't do her more challenging songs and I respect that. Being a singer I know how hard it is to sing when you have vocal strain. But she just didn't look like she wanted to be there and she didn't put any emotion or effort into her songs at all. She kept looking at Ty throughout the set which bugged me a bit. Then she did the stupid Yarra Valley Idol and brought two people up to sing their songs. Their full songs! "I have to do something like this coz my throat is sore" she says. I paid to hear Jewel sing not two hacks! The part that annoyed me the most was Jewel going off stage while they were singing and sitting on Ty's lap. I felt that was extremely rude. So all up I think we got about 50 minutes of her singing. I've seen her in concert 8 times now and that was the worst ever. I go to her concerts to hear her unreleased songs so I was quite disappointed in this concert. She's just lucky she sang 1000 Miles Away for me on Tuesday when I requested it. Well that's it, I just needed to bitch. Thanks for reading, Louise __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
