Branch: "I don't even know if I should start talking about Jewel - that would get me in trouble. But I can't envision being pushed down that path. I think there are obvious reasons why she made that record. And it's really intersting that that's been her best-selling record so far. It kind of makes me sad, actually. The exciting thing about music and doing it for a living is that I don't know exactly where I'm going and what I'm going to be five or 10years from now. And there's so much more that I have to learn and explore and try. I'm always struggling to prove myself as an artist." Later in the article: "I also don't like that Jewel song - the one they're using to sell those razors now." I'll refrain from adding any comments of my own. I believe it will be broadcast on the 13th January. Any updates and a schedule of all US TV shows (that I'm aware of) featuring Jewel can be found at Jewel's International Forum... http://pub39.ezboard.com/fthedutchjewelforumfrm5.showMessage?topicID=5.topic Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 14:50:56 -0500 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] Michelle Branch on Jewel >I think > there are obvious reasons why she made that record. > And it's really intersting that that's been her > best-selling record so far. It kind of makes me sad, > actually. the only comment I have is...uhm, since when is it her best selling record so far? she hasn't even hit platinum with it...where as all her other ones have sold at least that much. I mean, seriously, I have nothing against Michelle Branch, but I *really* hate it when people make judgements on other people, when they obviously aren't equip with the facts, and really shouldn't say anything until they are. 0304 is not really more "pop" than the Spirit Room was... yeah, it has more beats/less 'girl with guitar', but the reality is, it's not more pop than her records are. and, you know, sometimes it's not always the obvious reasons that are the truth. I know part of Jewel making that record, even if she wants to deny it, was because she was kind of looking for that big pop success...but when it comes down to it, I think that was a very small reason. I think that any person who has a wide range in musical tastes should be able to understand, that if you can like everything from Frank Sinatra, to Jewel, to Metallica....that as an artist, there has to be a part of you that would like to experiment with your own music, and that doesn't feel like you need to be stuck in one box your entire life. That, you'd maybe enjoy performing anything from heavy metal to pop because you appreciate a broad spectrum of music. I really think that we can thank serve the ego for 0304, because it was then that Jewel started to realize she was more than just some chick who was raised in alaska, lived in her van & wrote folk songs.... I'm glad she stretched herself a bit, even if it's my least favourite album...because in the end, when she goes back to her roots, she's bringing the experience with her, and it'll help her. I'd really like to know why suddenly Michelle Branch is making remarks about Jewel all the time as if she's standing on some pedastel looking down on her... just because she made a record that was out of character. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 15:05:28 EST From: SullMa84@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Michelle Branch on Jewel Michelle needs to just shut the hell up and not comment if she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about..."it's intersting that it has been her best selling album..." no, dear, actually it hasn't, and you've been in the business long enough to know to shut your mouth if you have no clue what your talking about... Would she like Jewel to list her songs that she doesn't like? Cuase I don't like your little ditty with Sheryl Crow, who uses her songs in car commercials.
