Anyone > else feel the same kind of impending doom? > I have seen a lot of things come and go since I have been here. I keep putting off that "State of the EDA" post. I think Mr BB put it best when he said to me: "It's not 1995 anymore." Oh well, I'm still here. Oh any of my long lost EDA friends feel free to drop me a line. :-) Pete ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2003 23:59:06 +1100 From: Barry Howarth Subject: [EDA] Re:book of love poems Hi Angels, I just received a message from amazon.com about Jewel's book of love poems that, I think, was supposed to be released on Valentine's Day next year: 'We are sorry to report that the release of the following item has been cancelled: Jewel (Author) "Jewel's Love Poems" Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it will not be released after all.' Anyone else heard anything? As we're not getting much information from Jewel's new management, this list is going to be more important at least as the only real source of news about Jewel. This, of course, it is already happening. While I won't have Jewel's book of love poems for Valentine's Day, I will have Jewel herself, at the "Day on the Green" concert in the wine country of the Hunter Valley. Reminds me of poems by the great Iranian poet (and astronomer, mathematician and philosopher) Omar Khayyam -- wine and my beloved on a summer's evening. Take care, Barry Howarth ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2003 12:19:38 +1100 From: "Stephen H." Subject: [EDA] list activity... I think the list activity fluctuates depending on what Jewel is doing. In the period between Spirit and This Way this list got EXTREMELY slow... Jewel wasn't doing anything at all and I remember the digests were really small. However when This Way came out we started getting back up there with the posts... This Way's release kept the list active. Then we had the tour, which continued the activity... then the acoustic tour which went across the country so that kept the list active. And even as that was happening, MrBB was sending us updates on plans for Jewel's new album, which she actually started demo'ing between the two legs of the acoustic tour. Then, in January those updates started to get more detailed and frequent... and 3 months later Intuition was released, which got the list pumping fully again. So you see there really was no break. However, these last few months have been different. Jewel's national tour was cancelled and so she's only playing a few local acoustic shows in California, which only a few list members have the opportunity to see and report on... so that hasn't created the same level of activity as a usual tour does. And she's been basically inactive otherwise for a while. 0304 hasn't taken long to run it's course on the charts (although it'd be nice if it picked up again)... and yeah... things are just slow. She's touring Australia in February and then she's gonna take a bit of time off and then start working on the next record... I do agree that the management have had an effect... only because the old JeweLink really kept us updated on Jewel's general activity... what she was doing week to week, working or not. The latest JeweLinks haven't kept us informed of any of that... so it's been much more difficult to keep up a discussion on what she's doing. But also there hasn't been much to report recently, really. I hope that when she starts recording the next album they're just as forthcoming as MrBB was... although somehow I doubt it. I mean, we just had a small tour and I saw just two or three posts about it! I refuse to believe that only these people went to the concerts. Jewel played some really rare material, like Happy Endings, ABCD All of the Above and God's Gift To Women and nobody said a thing about it! At the very least, this has been evidenced in the last few years with the annual bearsville gathering. Each year we have seen less and less 'newbies' to the gathering and have pretty much become just the core group of east coasters who've been going from the beginning (or close to it). As a matter of fact, the last couple years all or most of the new attendees have been friends of usual attendees. While it hasn't been recently, the last few years there has been little to no interest in gatherings. Even when there seems to be verbal interest on the list, there is very little actual attendance when someone actually puts one together. Especially if there is no Jewel connection, such as a show. I have very fond memories of Bearsville, The Great EDAdventure, ChelStock, etc... and even of chatting til all hours with people at gatherings we didn't host or attend. Are there even still Jewel chat rooms around? I myself have grappled with the decision to unsubscribe numerous times in the last couple years for various reasons - loss of community, Jewel's new image (not that I don't still like her...), the loss of support/interest by Jewel and her people, etc, etc... I think for those of us who've been around for years, this has been somewhat inevitable as people's lives have changed - many we've known since the beginning have gotten married, started families, moved away, graduated college etc... But we still have these friends and cherish them - even if we have lost touch with a few of them :-) Oh well, that's enough babbling from me - See some of you at next years Bearsville gathering :-) Hugs to all :-) Tammy :-) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #511 ***************************
