It's simple - if the song exhibits any signs of actually becoming a HIT on Hot AC radio, it's very likely that Atlantic will put out the money to make a video for it. Until then, it's not worth investing in a video when there's a high chance that it won't get played anyway (just as the This Way video didn't get played)... and it certainly won't get played until the song is a hit on the radio. If the song becomes successful, they'll make a video and probably cross the song over to Pop radio. Until then, we'll have to go videoless. The song has only been out a week and it's clearly a very low-key release... if we actually make an effort to request the single and get it some airplay then Atlantic might feel encouraged to back it with some money. The Stand video probably cost them shitloads, and it was pointless cause it barely got played and the single has flopped... so they got NO return for that. I can hardly blame them for not wanting to shell out another $50 000 (minimum) to make a video for 2 Become 1... The Stand video, even with it's lack of radio play, still is in heavy rotation. I usually got home from work at 2 in the morning and have VH1 on till probably 5 while i do various things, and within that time period I have seen Stand as many as 5 times and as few as 3...so it gets play. It got another 8 adds, which is actually more than the 7 adds the song recieved last week... so that's quite a positive sign. If the song can continue to rack up adds slowly as the weeks progress, it might turn into a hit. It's certainly very suited to the format.
