Subject: [EDA] 0304 could be certified platinum any day.... I just wanted to clarify something - 0304 could easily be certified as platinum any day now. It's only sold 600 000 copies, but that's enough for platinum. Platinum means a million copies SHIPPED, not a million copies sold. Madonna's American Life has only sold 600 000 copies in the USA, and it's platinum. Spirit has sold 3.5 million copies in the USA, and it's 4x platinum... that's 500 000 copies more than what it's actually sold. So yeah... to say it's not even threatening platinum isn't exactly true. I agree with Fabio whole-heartedly about 2 Become 1. I think it's a good choice. Jewel needs to go back to her core radio format (Hot AC) and release a song that fits that format... and will appeal to older fans. And then if it does well, cross that song over to pop radio. Intuition was a one-off hit on Pop radio because it was just SUCH a pop-friendly song... but Atlantic had to push it very, very hard. Had it been released by Christina Aguilera it would've gone straight into the top 5, without a blink. The fact is, Jewel is pushing 30 and no longer part of pop's core artist roster... any other song on 0304 will flop if it's released to pop radio off the bat. Also, Atlantic can no longer afford to give a new single the same amount of promotion as they gave Intuition, because frankly...0304 hasn't sold enough. If they release the 3rd single to both formats they'll be spreading themselves too thin. I think the only way she's gonna get a pop hit is if it's a hit on Hot AC first. There's nothing to say 2 Become 1 couldn't be a pop hit as a song... if it were released by Michelle Branch it probably would be. But I think for Jewel it needs to be a Hot AC hit first for programmers to take notice. I disagree about giving the album up... I think that would be a stupid move on Atlantic's part. I doubt Jewel will make another record as commercial as 0304 for a while. Intuition was such a huge change that it turned off a lot of older fans, and newer fans needed more than 1 song to convince them to buy the record (as you do...). If Stand had been given a shot by radio it would've been a song to turn old fans back on (with the lyrics) and keep new fans interested (with the sound and the cool video)... but once again radio stations ignored Jewel's 2nd single. I think Atlantic can still turn it around... but they have to go back to Jewel's home turf, which is Hot AC radio. I think moving on to another album would be a bad idea. Just my two cents! I hope they don't give up yet. 0304 is too commercial of a record to not be a commercial success.... So I'm not sure what's going on, but that's what I have listed in my area (Minnesota). Strange though, if it's wrong, considering it was Thursday night really late (Friday early AM, actually) and it is so close to when it airs. Sometimes it's wrong when it's a week off, but it's never been wrong this close to when something is suppose to air. So I would check your local listings just to make sure before you write it off for being on in November.
