Your best bet is to check out netscape or aol's music or entertainment pages (if you use aim the aim today window will have links). Personally, I tried to remove my obvious biasness away from this matter. But even then, I can't agree with anyone who says Moore's version is better. I think its a matter of taste. Many Moore sings it all Mandy-ish and girly in my opinion. It was kinda "flat," and didn't really move me. I really love Jewel's raw grit in her version. It gave a lot more feel and depth to the song. But I have to say this: The other night I saw a commercial saying Mandy would be performing from her new cd on Oprah. I figured it would be Have A Little Faith In Me, and I really wanted to see how she would do it live so I'll admit, I tuned into Oprah, hehe. Anyways, she came on, didn't sing Have A Little Faith In Me, but another song from her cd. I have to say that her vocals were pretty good at that and she was really into it. At least way more than I expected. She earned more respect from me that way. Shes very far from ever being grouped with Britney Spears and the likes. Speaking of Britney Spears, on a side note: I think its okay to be sexy and show a little, but Britney feels like shes in a contest to see who can show the most, and lately shes running out of options, if you know what I mean. I certainly feel like its not about the music anymore, if it ever was. I think performing the song in front of millions of television viewers on the Radio Music Awards will be a HUGE help, followed by Leno and the Lyon's Den. Theres a little bit of hope left! I haven't posted on a regular basis in quite some years. However, because of this latest outrage, I feel that I need to speak out. I've been a loyal Jewel fan for years. Even during her post-Spirit phase, when the public largely forgot about her, loyal EDAs like myself would continue to buy her albums, read her books, and some of the more zealous EDAs even traveled hundreds of miles to see her in concert. We've always been extremely supportive of Jewel, and I've always felt that Jewel treated her fans a step above the rest. For free, we could join the mailing list, and be kept abreast of everything Jewel, (concert dates, magazine articles, movie plans), long before you'd see it on Entertainment Tonight or read about it in the magazines. We stood firmly by Jewel during the winter of her career, and I always felt that Jewel and her team recognized and appreciated that. However, lately, ever since the release of 0304, I've felt that the two-way street of Jewel and the EDAs has largely become a one-way street. The Jewel Link e-mails, which we used to get at least weekly, are very few and far between. In fact, I had to find out about T-Bone's death by calling the ticket company and asking why my tickets for the Madison Square Garden show hadn't arrived, yet. Presales, which used to be announced on the list or on Jewel Link are now available only to website subscribers. And now, the latest outrage is a Jewel show, here on Long Island, that was never announced on the list or via Jewel Link, and isn't even listed on JewelJK's general or presale calendar. I had to find out about it in the newspaper today, in an ad for Farmingdale's "Downtown" club, which proudly states "SOLD OUT!" under Jewel's name. Tickets were available on Ticketmaster, but while Jewel Link and the J-Team made sure to send numerous e-mails about the slew of California and Nevada shows, there was never the slighest mention of Jewel appearing at this highly intimate venue, which would have been especially nice to attend after the MSG show on the 0304 Tour was canceled. It just seems to me that ever since this Jewel era of commercialization was kicked off by the release of 0304 and the start of Unedited, the J-Team is concentrating more on doing everything they can to expose her in the media, and doing very little to appreciate the fans who kept her afloat between albums. I don't blame Jewel for this breakdown in EDA relations. It's obviously those around her who have let us be swept under the carpet during the media blitz. I just think it's very sad that even when we go ahead and subscribe to Unedited, which totally goes against the spirit of the mailing list in my opinion, we don't even get the courtesy of being given a heads-up before a general Ticketmaster sale. It's like the J-Team is shedding the EDAs like an old overcoat, and I think it's a real shame. Popbidder ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2003 23:08:38 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] Lyon's Den My third post in a row, harhar. Well, my little theory on Lyon's Den (thats probably obvious to 99% of you by now as well): On Regis and Kelly, Jewel mentioned them letting her take a lot of takes, as many as she needed, right? One "crew member" who also reported to E! just need to change it around. Maybe in one take, they chicken out or laugh like we always see in outakes and bloopers during the kiss scene, laughs going "Ohh I can't do it!" just kidding around. All of a sudden "Jewel wouldn't kiss Lowe!" The guy sees that Jewel took a lot of takes in her scenes, and all of sudden that *must* be because they didn't like what she was doing. I just don't think we should automatically assume the rumours are true just yet. It only takes one rogue crew member to call in, possibly cash in, to do this. And so far I believe that every little tidbit of news we have seen on this has been based on a little gossip report heard from E!, most even referring the E! report to begin with. I remember there was once a rumour saying she was a huge pain during Lilith Fair. There's probably been dozens of rumours. Its just part of being a celebrity. Like everyone else says, I'm not even taking this gossip seriously anymore, and am am just going to wait and see if she appears in 3 episodes or 1, or at least until I hear something more official than a little tidbit of news from E!. And hey, maybe the producers weren't like the RwtD people, and just got sick of the extra work that we know is involved for Jewel (even she admits that she needs more takes). Maybe it is true. Oh well? Peace, Mark _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses.
