I don't understand, what did we pay $40 for? A few incomplete performance audio and videos? When they sold us on Unedited the selling points also included presale concert tickets and backstage, as well as soundcheck, opportunities. Well now, you can go to jeweljk and without even becoming an unedited member you can click on the tickets link and buy your ticket package. Well, at least for anyone that we pissed off by musictoday, Jewel has moved on to having FansRule move her presale tickets for her. But they do business the same way, only difference is you don't know where your seat is until you get it. Aerosmith and Kiss were some of the first to try the selling of these packages. The pricing was tiered as well. You could get a seat and a backstage experience anywhere from $400 - $1000 ($1000 got you within the first five rows center and backstage with Kiss). Now these bands easily have much greater success, stature and history than Jewel - and their expensive packages were met with a lukewarm response at best. Other acts GIVE you meet and greets just for being a fan club member and being one of the first to reply that you'd like to be on the list (don't reply too fast if you can't make it though, you'll never be on the list again). Or, some acts will allow fans to put their names into a random drawing for a particular show and if you get picked you get your pass. Linkin Park and Joe Satriani (on his own AND his G3 tours with Steve Vai and friends). In any case - I've supported Jewel to no end. Most people would expect that if anyone could buy their way backstage, I'd be the first in line. But, I'm not doing this. It feels cheesy and lame, and the whole thing about having paid for these privileges and now anyone can buy them without being a fan club member - that just pisses me off. A couple of disorganized presales and now this. So - I've paid $40 for unedited, the cash that I've put out for the tickets, and now this is offered to anyone that has the cash, and they don't even have to pay the $40 membership fee? The $40 got us an autographed picture and some incomplete performances. That's pretty weak when you consider what else was promised. And another thing - the people that have already won Stub Hub charity auctions that include a meet and greet.... do they get more time with Jewel because their money went to a charitable cause and in some cases they paid more than $195 per ticket? Or are those people going to just get lumped in with the ones that were able to go buy their backstage experience? The more I think about all this the bigger the distaste I have in my mouth for the whole thing. Hi - Where are you able to download 12 to 24 songs on Unedited? So far all I've seen is PARTIAL clips of songs and videos in Ram or Player form that are not downloadable, other than the 2 downloadable bonus tracks in the beginning. I don't think that a Ram connection to a partial song is what most of us thought we would get for sub-scribing to Unedited, not to mention all the other problems we all seem to be having in other areas of what was advertised for Unedited. And I don't think we're going to be able to download much in the future. just wondering if you know something I don't know. If you do, please share the info. theresa ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Sep 2003 13:23:07 +0200 From: "Michiel" Subject: [EDA] Jewel record 0304 chart position hi jewelfans, in Holland Jewel entered at 54 in the dutch album charts. My sentiments exactly. When they first announced the tour dates, I was upset to see that all the ones in my area were scheduled for the same time that I planned on being on the road somewhere else, seeing Poltz and all the friends I have made through his site. But now... I'm not sure I care. I can guarantee that the 10-11 Poltz shows I'm catching COMBINED will cost less than ONE ticket for the Jewel 'velvet rope crap'. And with Steve, you don't pay extra to say hello & shake his hand, or sit down at the bar & talk for half an hour after the show. I realize that they aren't at comparable levels of 'popularity', but I think there's no question who's providing more entertainment for the dollar. If this is all the new management's idea... I think they should check their heads. When they start alienating the hard-core fools like me & Dave, who have been spending countless dollars of our OWN money, and not our Mommy's and Daddy's, well... she may be back to playing the bars again sooner than she expected. But maybe that's a good thing. I'm shuttin' up now, Rob _________________________________________________________________ Get MSN 8 and enjoy automatic e-mail virus protection. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2003 11:32:05 -0500 From: "Martin, Matthew" Subject: [EDA] Still the best LIVE act... He's Amazing. He's currently on tour promoting his new album "Chinese Vacation" I just saw him last night at Mucky Duck's in Houston... and I had a blast... There are a lot of great songs on his new album... but he also played older songs including "Silver Lining" , "Everything About You" (from Knotting Hill Soundtrack), Waterfalls (of TLC fame), and of course "You Where Meant For Me"... He puts so much energy into his performance and into the audience... I truly left inspired... not to mention sitting down chatting with him after the show made it worth it all... Limited Time Offer.... If you catch a show in the next few weeks you can actually buy his new album "Chinese Vacation before it releases at the end of the month... So head on over to www.poltz.com and go see our friend Steve when he drives into your town. That's it for now... I mean it seems like a few weeks back they sent out an email saying be patient, but I haven't seen another word since. I am not looking for it today, but just a note from them to say "hey, we're still getting to those pictures" would be nice given that unedited is clicking away unavailable for a limited subscription time frame. Also - just to clarify - I think the $225 for the AC show velet rope thing is a heck of deal given what the presale tickets were offering for $90 seats. If it wasn't $225 x 4 for me to take the family I'd buy it. Subject: [EDA] 90% Fovaorable Review of 0304 in September 19, 2003 Goldmine Magazine The September 19, 2003 issue of Goldmine Magazine (a music collectors' magazine) has just published a "90% favorable" review of 0304: JEWEL 0304 Atlantic (83638-2). Because 0304 was recorded as the country was headed toward war, Jewel decided that what her audience needed was lighter escapist fare, thus 0304 finds her shucking her earnest folkie persona in favor of modern dance beats that and a sexier, more sophisticated image. Jewel infuses her music with more personality and human warmth than is commonly found in the dance genre, and the bulk of the tunes, which Jewel cowrote with producer Lester Mendez (Shakira, Enrique Iglesias), are instantly infectious. The records first single, Intuition, with its robust R&B style delivery, deftly introduces the new bolder, brasher Jewel even if the song does come with a big ugh factor attached to it (it was specifically written for use in Schicks ad campaign for its new all-in-one shaver for women)[note: this is inaccurate]. Jewel keeps things interesting by emphasizing diversity the bright, bouncy new-wave feel of 2 Find U shares space with the gloomy Haunted, a tale of creepy obsession. Mostly, though, she exudes sensuality, tossing around phrases such as press yourself into me or commanding her lover in the soulful Leave The Lights On to Just look at me sacredly, religiously, hungrily/Let your eyes say Please/ I will not leave. Her free-spirited persona shines in the hook-filled Yes U Can, a celebration of the club scene and the seize-the-day exuberance of Doin Fine (Life lays out just like a road/Its for us 2 grab ahold). Jewels songs arent unreservedly upbeat. On the lilting Stand, for instance, she addresses a world gone awry. She does, however, tend to litter her songs with too many pop-culture references, name-checking everyone from Charlie Sheen to The Osbournes, a move guaranteed to date these songs pretty quickly. At her worst, Jewel sounds like a purveyor of generic dance pop, but at her best and thats a good 90 percent of the time shes come up with some of the catchiest dance music around.
