[NeOblCar@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2003 10:57:36 +1000 From: Fredsteve Subject: [EDA] This whole Unedited/Jewel's management fiasco... Well... most people know me as the guy who jumps to Jewel's defense over most things. But in this particular situation.... I'm not gonna be doing that. The Unedited thing is completely unacceptable. They advertised that service as offering several things... one of which was opportunities to go backstage on the upcoming tour and meet Jewel etc... If they meant PAY THROUGH THE NOSE to go backstage then they should've SAID that. It was very misleading. Now, whether or not it's worth the $200 is, I guess, dependant on what IT actually is. However there's no question a lot of Jewel's fans won't be able to afford that. For $200 it better be a MEGA sexy backstage tour with a proper meet and greet and some serious extras... and not one of those cheap-ass "meet and greets" that radio stations run. I mean it better be a seriously high class situation for $200. I guess we'll see when some of you (if any of you do it) go. The fact that they haven't announced until NOW (after most people have already purchased their regular presale tickets) is also completely stupid... and just disorganised. I'd imagine they'd offer some kind of an exchange if you want to upgrade to the velvet rope... it would be stupid of them not to... they'd be making money from it. As far as Jewel's management switch goes... I think we need to give them a chance to get things together. Up until now Jewel has almost been self-managed. I mean Nedra was her manager, but Nedra is her mother... and not an outside party. So in order for that to work Nedra needed a team of people to work with her on Jewel's career... that became the J-Team. I bet a good portion of the 20% that Nedra got as manager was reinvested into the company that ran Jewel's career. All those people were also responsible for SoulCityCafe etc etc. Now that Nedra has decided to leave, Jewel has switched management companies so most of the tasks performed by the so-called "J-Team" are being transitioned over to Irving Azoff's company.... hence MrBB leaving. Clearly Irving Azoff outsources stuff like website development... so as of now Jewel's website is being run by a company called fansrule. I personally think the new website looks like shit but navigates better than the updated one, and is less clunky. However it's missing content like the guest artists and the scrapbook (setlists etc).... which, if they don't restore... would SUCK. Particularly the setlists thing. I *loved* that feature. I think we need to look at it like this - Nedra wasn't fired, she decided to leave... she made that pretty clear in her message. Jewel *could* have hired somebody else within her company as manager and get the J-team up and running... but I don't think that would've made sense from her point of view. So her only option was to go outside the J-team... which basically meant that the dismantling of the J-team was inevitable and unavoidable. I do still believe that these people are trying to do what's best for the fans. I don't believe Jewel is trying to screw everyone over and rip them off of their money. It's just a question of letting them get their systems together. I mean a whole shitload of tasks are being transferred from one group of people to another.... it's gonna take them a minute to get things organised. And as far as a contact with Jewel's management for fans... I think it's very important and if they're smart they'll get that together too. Steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2003 10:59:34 +1000 From: Fredsteve Subject: [EDA] whoops.... Oh... I just checked out jeweljk.com and realised that the scrapbook is going to come back... so that should include setlists etc. The only thing missing is favourites which I never really visited anyway. So I guess that's no big deal. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2003 11:03:22 +1000 From: Fredsteve Subject: [EDA] oh...again Oh And I just checked out the Unedited subscription page on jeweljk.com and they have two separate listings: Backstage tours and opporunities to meet Jewel! AND The Velvet Rope Backstage brings you behind-the-scenes to check out the excitement before the show. Take an all-access backstage tour, recieve a classy gift bag including an exclusive Jewel Unedited T-shirt, enjoy your guaranteed seat in the first ten rows, and best of all, say hello to Jewel when you meet her before the show! So... if those two things are the same, then it sucks. However if they still plan to offer Unedited members (via a contest or whatever) opportunities to attend the meet and greets without necessarily going on a backstage tour or whatever.... as a separate thing... then I think it's fine. I hope they clarify that soon. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2003 11:41:49 +1000 From: Fredsteve Subject: [EDA] Pit at tower theatre???? Is anyone seeing Jewel at the Tower Theatre? At Ticketmaster.com they're advertising "pit" seats... which are price level 1... but they're completely sold out. Only orchestra, loge and balcony seats are available. Are they putting some kind of a general admission "pit" down the front for people to dance??? That could be cool.... Did anyone get "pit" seats for this show? Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2003 11:46:18 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] the velvet rope thing Actually, I do not find 195 to be HORRIFIC when it comes to actually getting to go backstage and meet Jewel, get great seats, and an extra goodie. I'd pay for it if I was able to get to one of her concerts (too far away). Everyone has been complaining about the new management thing, but before the new twists to the J-team, were there ANY offers at all similar to this? We had a couple audio or video clips now and then, a little poster contest, that was it. I'd also like to take the time to note on the reason why Jewel herself probably doesn't contact the list much anymore. It was okay when she wasn't very famous, but do you have any idea what it would do to the list if word got out that Jewel was sending personal messages to us? It would be overrun by thousands of other fans and the EDA list would probably be more different than ever. The nashbash thing took place during her short hiatus, which was a safe idea because right then not many outsider people would've noticed or took interest. I hope thats the reason, at least! :p But anyways, to get to what I was going to say, since everyone is thinking of writing a letter, complaining to the J-team about it, why hasn't anyone realized that they could tell it to the lady herself? If anyone does go and meet Jewel, maybe they could take the very fine opportunity to mention the EDA list and recent thoughts from it? Maybe Jewel would have some genuine concern? Of course, if anyone does this, do it very intelligently and represent us well, lol. Just my two cents on the whole issue. I think this is all pretty silly. Jewel is not > Britney Spears or Madonna and she will not be selling out > an arena anytime soon. woe. I hope you don't still feel this way. Every one knows that revenue's from album sales are way down because of piracy. So, artists are looking for new ways to make money. Many are looking to back stage access like the J-Team is. Promoters and record companies are even looking for a cut of the touring revenue. It's allot of resonsibility to be in a position in a company, like Jewel is with the J-Team, where people depend on you for the stability of their jobs and for their paycheck. I never really understood this until I found myself in that position and many of my friends where being laid off by other companies. The Velvet Rope and Unedited may just be Jewel's way of taking care of the people who take care of her - the J-Team. What have the (current) EDA's done for Jewel that she should "take care" of them? I haven't seen many supportive messages on this list, let alone many acts of support. Jewel's tickets still cost about the same as they did when I went to my first Jewel concerts (the Spirit tour). All tickets don't cost $195, just special access back stage pases. So what exactly are you complaining about? Acousticly, the front row/orch pit is one of the worst places to sit at a venue. The best is usually near the center, or back center, of the building. So if you're really into the music sit there. If you want to dance, try and get an isle seat. If you want to sit close so you can see chord voicings but can't afford or get access to those tickets, just bring a pair of opra binoculars. You can usually get them for <$5. I could see the fretting of Hands just fine with a small pair from almost all the way in the back the last time I went to a Jewel concert. If Jewel is too large and comerical for you, check out some of the smaller acts she inspired with her career like, Bea ( http://www.onlymebea.com/ ). Some one else wrote: > Mike do u have an answer or can u get one? You know, when I joined this list it was about talking with other Jewel fans and sharing common interests in music and social views. It wasn't a special access tool to get free stuff or good deals. It's sad that so much of the traffic has become people trying to pressure Mike and the J-Team for free stuff or special treatment/problem resolution. Enjoy the music. - VAB * the geek angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Sep 2003 16:08:41 EDT From: MicheleMarie333@aol.com Subject: [EDA] velvet rope tour thing...
