Marcel pondered: >>I have been the most loyal fan of jewel > mmmmm, does something like a "most loyal fan" exist? > How do we measure loyality? > Does it have a unit like Amps for power? Well, I guess we as a team could commandeer the age-old unit of measurement called "joule" and use it for this new measurement of fan loyalty of Jewel Kilcher. It had a fantastic chart run and it showed everyone Jewel is still strong in the business. It still has a bullet at Hot Ac though. **Billboard charts: Intuition - Hot 100: #21 (last week:#20) Intuition - Top 40: #11 (last week:#11) Intuition remixes - Dance: #7 (last week:#1) 0304 - Top 200: #36 (last week:#29) **0304 went gold ( sales of 500,000 album units ) in the USA. **This came to me as the European cover, though I'm not sure if it is correct or not: http://www.angelfire.com/rock3/underthewater/images/0304europecover.jpg **Warner Music Australia confirmed that Stand is the next single. Ok, that's it! Fabio - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 14:45:00 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] SJC: Positive Energy Woah. And woah. I just read the latest 3 or 4 digests all at once. Who will save your souls, guys? :P I agree with what someone else said... Don't think this is the entire list gone berserk. Its just a few people! Its sad that Mike did have to step in, but it was needed. (I kinda regret my angry post from the other night now.. I really don't know if I was acting out of line or not, so someone please let me know for in the future...) And who knows? Maybe it took this whole series of events to make us realise how bad its been getting, and we can smarten up from now on and act better to ourselves and others. Anyways, I think it would be nice to bring a bit of positive energy to the list. (Sandy, the pictures of your kitten made me melt!! >.<) However corny it might be, maybe we should post something nice that you've done or someone has done for you lately. Well, I'll guess I'll start off by saying that my mom did something great. We have a lot (and I mean a LOT) of airmiles because my dad travels a LOT for work. I really wanted a vacation this summer. With air miles, you have to call months in advance to get any chances for getting a seats. We only decided we were going a couple weeks ago, and she called every single night to the airport, talking for up to hours at a time trying to see if any seats got freed up. Well, last night we got lucky, and now the whole family is going to Toronto for a week in August! I'm so excited. All I need now is for the J-team to announce Jewel will be doing some Canadian promotion in Toronto between Aug 15-21! lol Anyways, I hope this topic picks up with the list. Its nice to hear something good once in a while. Yes, sales, not shipment. According to Billboard, this is how they do it: *Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certification for sales of 500,000 album units (Gold). **RIAA certification for shipment of 1 million units (Platinum). ***RIAA certification for net shipment of 10 million units (Diamond). Fabio - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 17:42:28 -0500 From: "Sarah Dowling" Subject: [EDA] SJC: Positive Energy Thanks, Mark! The list needed this :-) Here's my positive story: Two and a half years ago, having completed high school and looking forward to college in the Fall, I found myself with a growing list of expenses. Living with a single parent, I knew it was time for another summer job -- and fast. I went out and dutifully collected a large stack of applications. After bringing them home that evening, I checked my voice mail. There was a weird message from an acquaintance of my mothers -- a man she knew from work but rarely spoke to. He said the woman he was dating needed a nanny/babysitter for the summer, and would I be interested? I called back, hesitant about the whole thing, and set up an interview. Three years later, I feel like the whole thing was touched by the hand of God. The man who called has since broken up with his girlfriend, and she has now remarried. I have enjoyed the last three incredible summers, as well as a semester I took off, spending day in and day out with her beautiful children. She and I have become very close as well -- we are great friends. It's hard to put into words, but I do think that they were put into my life for reason. Next week marks the end of my time with them. I'm moving to another city, and though I know we'll keep in touch, this is last summer we will spend together. Instead of being upset, I have chosen to be thankful for having them in life for as long as I have -- and for teaching me so much... Through this, I've learned more about myself than I thought I needed to -- and more importantly, how it feels to truly love and be loved. :) Sarah _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 23:55:51 +1000 From: Fredsteve Subject: [EDA] stuff Hey Guys I'm back from vacation. It was great to come back and see Intuition in the top 10, even if it has just lost it's bullet. Although I have to say I think I'm glad of that. All I wanted is for the song to make the Top 10 at pop, which it has. I'm ready for a second single now. She should sing Stand on the Tonight Show. I doubt she'll do Intuition again. Although if she's doing two songs on Pepsi Smash or whatever it's called... then she'll do Intuition and then Stand probably. Album sales appear to have levelled at around 30 000 a week. She's sold like 411 000 copies so far... and it's Gold, which is nice. If the second single does well then it should just keep selling. If not, she's in trouble in terms of sales cause without the benefit of the xmas sales season the sales haven't been as strong as the early sales on This Way. However I think Stand'll do well, just based on the success of Intuition. If it does that SHOULD carry her into the xmas period where the album will probably sell pretty well. And if it does do well that'll carry over to a 3rd single as well. I have to let you know that I stopped over in Singapore on my way to Europe (for my vacation) and Intuition was playing on the loudspeakers in the airport. I also found Blender in the store on the way there and Interview on the way back - so Singapore has been very good to me and seems to be into Jewel at the moment. The three shots from Interview are great, as well as the actual interview. I was glad to see her comment on the censorship of fucking in America. I knew I was right and that she was doing it for irony. Hah! I also just read Revealing Jewel. Very interesting.... lots of stuff I didn't know and the photos are cool. Plus - you guys need to stop arguing. It's sorta funny to come back to this list after a couple of weeks away, and just see these fights where I've been totally out of it and there's no perspective... and to be honest, you look kinda ridiculous. I mean it's bordering on being just plainly humerous. I think it'll be a shame if they shut down SCC cause it's a really good thing for Jewel to be doing - very positive for the music industry. And I don't think there's any doubt that it helped to launch Jason Mraz into the mainstream. Sure, he's a "good" artist... but opening for Jewel snowballed into opening for Dave Matthews, which led to exposure, which in turn led to added radio exposure and media etc etc etc. I mean I would compare it to Bob Dylan and Neil Young taking Jewel out on the road with them when she was early in her career. Sure Jewel is a great artist and was probably going to do well, but having people like that put faith in her certainly pushed along her career - and the same can be said with Jewel and Jason Mraz. Anyway - hopefully if they have to restructure it or whatever.. they'll work out a way to keep it going. Besides that - you guys should just get some perspective and quite fighting ... cause frankly it's kinda silly. later, Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 22:23:28 -0300 From: Ziad Chatila Subject: [EDA] njc: from cats to bulls. In keeping with the animal theme, I would like to know what people think of the decision in alberta (canada) to have a Run of the Bulls, like they do every year in spain??????? Maybe I'll try it next year. big pimpin' z.
