Fiona Apple At Work On New Album Singer/songwriter Fiona Apple is at work on her third Epic studio album. While a July 22 release date has been circulating online, a spokesperson says it will most likely arrive closer to September. The as-yet-untitled set is being produced by Jon Brion, who was at the helm for the artist's 1999 album "When the Pawn Hits...," which debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 862,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Also on board for the new project is drummer Matt Chamberlain, who played on both of Apple's earlier records. In a January posting on his official Web site, he wrote that recent sessions at a mansion in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles were "completely amazing. The mansion ... has been everything from a nunnery to a girls school -- it is now owned buy this wonderful lady who has been renting it out to people to record in and to do creative projects in; a very inspiring place to live and work." Apple has kept a low profile since the release of "When the Pawn," although she made a handful of appearances last year at the Brion-organized showcases at Los Angeles' Club Largo. Most recently, she was heard dueting with Johnny Cash on Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," which can be found on Cash's latest American album "American IV: A Man Comes Around." - -- Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. I'm a big Fiona fan, too, (as are many here, I'll bet) and the topic has come up recently on a music discussion board I follow. The above summary is one of the best answers that was posted! cheers, Adrian "...in my soul is water, earth and air and fire; all the things that make us whole and fuel all of your desire" - Midnight, Allison Crowe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2003 22:57:03 -0400 From: "Sean Stevens" Subject: [EDA] Njc: POLTZ DVD!! ;) Just got a chance to watch Poltz's new DVD- You must check this out!!!! It was filmed at The Basement in Australia. He is just a great performer. He is supportive of musicians and gives new acts exposure- (starting w/ Jewel). He is just a class act. Some of his lyrics are a little "crazy" but he seems to have a great heart. If anyone is hesitant of buying the DVD please just e-mail me and I'll send you some audio of Steve (and of Steve and Jewel)- I'd be amazed if you were disappointed .and nothing obviously would be lost. Audio recordings are great- but there is something a little more powerful to video. Perhaps you are a step closer to being there. Whatever- he is a great artist, amazing songwriter, and kind human being. Check him out. DVDs can be bought at www.discentertainment.com.au - less than $30 US and well worth it. I'm so busy these days- great live music is a pleasure. Check out Poltz when you can. Take care, Sean ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #303 ***************************
